A great bar and grill isn’t just about the char on the burger or the chill in the beer glass. It’s a neighborhood anchor, a place where the clatter of plates and the low hum of conversation feel like home. In Aurora, these havens of hearty fare and easy company face the quiet creep of chain concepts and soulless ‘eatertainment.’ The spots that follow—from timeless taverns to grill masters’ domains—don’t just serve a meal; they sustain a community’s character.
The Dam Bar & Grill
$ | (630) 845-3266 | WEBSITE

The Dam Bar & Grill has been serving Geneva for years, making it one of the area’s most reliable casual spots. And everything about this place is still unapologetically straightforward—from their first-come, first-served tables to the ritual of grabbing a seat at the bar for the game. Everyone’s coming here to do the same thing: dig into the all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry. But you should also try the $12 Buffalo chicken wrap, burgers, and standout items like coconut shrimp and clam chowder.
If you don’t want to navigate the lively peak-hour crowd, just go during off-hours for a more relaxed meal. But everyone should experience the full Dam Bar vibe at least once—friendly bartenders offering recommendations, multiple TVs showing sports, and that kind, attentive service that makes you feel genuinely welcome.
JT’s Tavern & Tap
$ | (630) 454-4466 | WEBSITE

The tavern this restaurant is named after served burgers and baskets in Aurora years before making “bar and grill comfort” popular in the suburbs. This place still makes our favorite version in the city: a patty of beef and toppings that comes hot and satisfying, all served with fries and slaw between a toasted bun. The burgers aren’t fancy and only cost about $12 each, so you can easily order so many appetizers that you can no longer see the table you’re sitting at.
Also, the remodeled location is as inviting and efficient as a neighborhood spot, but it’s got way better value and the charm of a classic local tavern.
The Town Bar & Grill
$ | (630) 499-9975 | WEBSITE

Since opening, The Town Bar & Grill has become a go-to for some of the best wings and bar food in Aurora. But it’s easy to drive right by this place if you don’t know that, because it looks like just another neighborhood bar—until you walk inside and smell the sizzling wings, the new tasty flatbread, and the delicious chocolate chip ice cream sandwich.
To place an order, just grab a seat at the bar or a table and let the friendly staff know what you want (or go online and check out their menu in advance). While you wait for the food, check out the entertainment options, which include darts, pool, and slots that deserve to become a permanent fixture in your weekend plans.
Rowdy’s
$ | (630) 553-5054 | WEBSITE

It’s likely you nursed your first hangover here in the early 2000s. And if you did, Rowdy’s was already a Yorkville institution. This local spot feels like a classic neighborhood bar. There are nifty fish tanks, dartboards on the walls, and baskets of wings being carried to every table. Servers are friendly and attentive, and the lively atmosphere includes events like adult bingo and live music. But this is a regulars’ joint, not some trendy gastropub.
The Spicy Yardbird chicken sandwich is delicious, the wings are the best in Aurora, and the staff makes you feel right at home even when it’s packed.
Roadhouse RTE 47
$ | (331) 207-8162 | WEBSITE

Roadhouse RTE 47 isn’t exclusively a bar, but it’s the first name that comes to mind when many Aurorans think of a lively local hangout. It’s more of a general bar and grill restaurant, and it’s one of the best places to take in the wide selection of casual staples Aurora does so well. The menu has bar classics like pulled pork nachos and Bang Bang Shrimp, but it also features great affordable options.
There’s currently one Roadhouse RTE 47 location in Aurora, but our favorite is on Route 47, because there’s a vibrant atmosphere with events like bingo night and live music. Take your plate of food, grab a cold drink, find a table, and sway to the tunes playing overhead while you munch on those delicious nachos.
Bar Louie – Naperville
$$ | (331) 444-2050 | WEBSITE

Not unlike chain restaurants or suburban sports bars dotting the landscape, Aurora is saturated with casual dining spots. But none of them do the approachable bar-and-grill thing better than the area’s reliable standby, Bar Louie. It’s still one of Naperville’s best places to unwind and spend a reasonable amount on craft burgers and expertly poured Guinness.
Bar Louie is a reminder of how the suburbs used to do neighborhood watering holes, back when bartenders remembered your name and the Impossible burger shared the same menu as the classic Louie burger.
The Bunker Bar & Grill
$ | (630) 520-0185 | WEBSITE

The Bunker Bar & Grill makes Aurora care more about bar food than any spot in town ever has. And you can now find their waffle fries on nearly every pub menu within the county. But we still love taking trips to the veteran-owned establishment, because it’s only at The Bunker that you’ll find their best stuff: a rotating cast of lunch specials, Italian beef sandwiches, corned beef and cabbage, and delicious burgers. That corned beef comes in generous portions, and it contains multitudes.
It’s tender, savory, hearty, and flavorful in all the right places. And if you stop by on a Thursday when the lunch specials are posted, grab a seat and settle in. Or, if you want to avoid waiting for any of this, just walk right up to the friendly staff.
O’Malley’s Pub & Eatery
$ | (630) 898-8700 | WEBSITE

The wooden deck and glowing pub sign of O’Malley’s are like Aurora’s version of a neighborhood beacon: a signal that we have arrived at something reliably welcoming. Except here, a good time comes with mozzarella bricks and exceptional drink prices. What started out as a local watering hole has evolved into the entire area’s favorite spot for relaxed, casual pub fare.
Now, there is a menu that features everything from fresh vegetables with dip and the must-try beignet platter to juicy burgers and popular wings, all served by friendly staff who make guests feel at home.
Wings Etc.
$ | (630) 882-9463 | WEBSITE

Wings have never really gone out of style, which is why Wings Etc. has been a bar and grill destination for years. It’s still as alive as ever in Aurora, serving a slice of casual comfort on one of the area’s most reliable eating streets. This local holdout has a crowd every day of the week that’s full of families and adults who want to unwind with some fun. You’re getting wings—and the Lime pepper wings are the star of the menu.
But if you leave without an order of Pretzel bites, we don’t understand you.
Bristol Tap
$ | (630) 553-6229 | WEBSITE

Bristol Tap does offer a variety of menu options, but you’re coming to this casual bar and grill for some of Aurora’s best burgers. The juicy patties—served with crispy fries—are cooked just enough to produce a satisfying char, but aren’t so heavily seasoned that you can’t taste the quality beef in each bite. It’s an exceptional deal, because you can get a burger with fries—plus a cold beer from their well-stocked bar—for under $15.
And while they have quick bar service for drinks, you can also sit at a table and order from the friendly staff while enjoying the lively atmosphere with music.
Sidecar Supper Club & Beer Garden
$$ | (630) 406-9200 | WEBSITE

If you’re even in the slightest mood for a classic bar and grill experience, all roads in Aurora lead to Sidecar Supper Club & Beer Garden. This hidden gem makes our favorite versions of so many comfort food staples. Their State Champion burger is wonderful, but there are more phenomenal choices like prime rib stroganoff, yoozoo chicken, and craft cocktails like old fashioneds and paper planes. Needless to say, ordering here can be a difficult task.
But whatever you get, portions are generous and the quality is consistent. Sidecar works for both groups hanging out or enjoying live music, and we firmly consider a forkful of equal parts State Champion burger, tater tots, and a craft beer to be the best bite one can have in Aurora.
Tap House Grill
$ | (630) 383-2020 | WEBSITE

Tap House Grill has been one of Aurora’s best bar and grill spots for years, and is responsible for introducing a large portion of Kane County to the wonders of their bucket of sliders. The cozy restaurant has a huge menu of classics, but the reason we make sure to come here more often than we see our dentists is for those sliders, a delicious assortment of mini burgers that deserve a permanent place on the menu.
The dishes up for grabs range from black bean burgers to farm burgers with an egg and all kinds of daily specials, like the popular mac and cheese and the beer of the month at a reduced price. Just remember that the loyalty program rewards you with points for every visit, which can be redeemed for free food.
Calamity Jane’s
$ | (630) 466-4427 | WEBSITE

For years, Calamity Jane’s has been the go-to spot to enjoy live music on weekends, which fills the cozy space with welcoming energy. Calamity Jane’s keeps the atmosphere warm and inviting all evening along with friendly, excellent service. We also appreciate the pet-friendly patio and convenient handicap parking, making it an enjoyable dining spot for all.
A couple things to know before you go: the owner is genuinely friendly, staff like Corinne go above and beyond, and while the food is generally good, there can be an occasional disappointing experience.
Twin Eagles Restaurant & Lounge
$ | (630) 231-1833 | WEBSITE

The reason you’re heading to this west Chicago spot is in the name. This place makes the best wings we’ve had in Aurora, and they serve them up in the same lively atmosphere they’ve been perfecting for years. Twin Eagles is a bar and grill, so you can find pool tables, darts, and slot machines alongside a selection of wing options like stinging honey garlic, Cajun dry rub, and more. It’s all delicious and available with friendly service.
But if you’ve got the time, stay for bingo night and strike up a conversation with the bartender. If Jackie likes you, there may be a draft beer waiting for you at the end of the meal.
Aurora Tap House
$ | (630) 892-9220 | WEBSITE

What do a classic barstool, a cold draft beer, and Aurora Tap House have in common? They’re reliable. This old-school bar in Aurora is probably where your dad watched the game last weekend. If you like a long bar with plenty of TVs showing all the sports, look no further. And once you try their variety of beer on tap (it’s always fresh, and the bartender remembers your favorite), you’ll crave it like a Friday night tradition.
Plus, there’s a cozy atmosphere with fun memorabilia on display that’ll make you want to settle in for the whole game. Aurora Tap House is a delightful throwback—they still keep the place spotlessly clean and price their drinks like it’s 2020—but years later, it’s still one of the best bar & grill spots in Aurora.
Pig Dog Pub
$ | (630) 340-5221 | WEBSITE

Pig Dog Pub is one of Aurora’s best bar and grill restaurants serving classic pub fare for lunch, dinner, or late-night bites. They’ve got a solid selection of options like $6.99 fish tacos with that unique balsamic flavor, wings that outshine places specializing in them, and $10 beer buckets for sharing. Order it all—just make sure to get their wings. They add some much-needed crunch to a table full of softer pub dishes. While you’re waiting for the food, take a lap around the pub.
The space here is a mini entertainment hub, featuring darts, Topgolf simulators, and a jukebox that showcase the lively atmosphere of this place.
Fireside Grille
$$ | (630) 466-4557 | WEBSITE

This Aurora bar and grill has been a local staple for years and still serves some of the area’s best comfort food—in hearty portions, grilled to juicy perfection, and baked with cheesy goodness. They also have a cozy dining room that feels like a rustic lodge and features warm lighting, wooden accents, and a central fireplace that makes you want to stay all evening. If you’re not in the mood for a full meal, order the Prime Rib with Parmesan crust from the counter.
Get a side of mashed potatoes, whisper a small prayer of gratitude to the culinary gods while you savor every bite, and save room for the strawberry cheesecake, which tastes like it was crafted by pastry wizards to end a perfect meal.
