You can’t always count on finding a bar that serves decent food, and sometimes you need a place where spilled drinks won’t get you the stink-eye. Here are Almada’s best spots where the vibe stays chill even when your friend starts loudly debating soccer. They’re all casual enough that you can order another round without judgment—and yes, we checked if they serve actual meals, too.

You don’t have to answer, but we’re still going to ask: have you ever felt envious of the wine connoisseur who gets to sample every Portuguese vintage while you’re stuck with the house red? If the answer is yes—and again, we don’t need to know—go to Nova Wine Bar. Everybody gets their wine recommendations and pairings at this charming Lisbon spot, so your friend can get the robust red with cured meats, and you can get the crisp white with seafood and olives.
The only thing you can’t pick is the owner’s expertise. (Pedro makes every pairing feel personal, and the whole experience is pretty delightful.)

This charming, seafood-focused Almada restaurant decorated with nautical nets, fishing gear, and a lively aquarium filled with aging crabs and large lobsters is a great place for seafood lovers to enjoy their first-ever fresh-catch selection, right from the display (with their choice of grilled fish, cod, or lobster). Other notably satisfying offerings include paella, sardines, oysters, squid, and even a mixed grill that’s served—pretty generously—like a seafood feast.

Lisbon carnivores know what’s up. If you thought this converted bank building—with its spectacular steak and extraordinary wine cellar—was just for special occasions, you’d be right. But it’s also for weeknights. Absolutely no one will be fazed by you lingering over that charcoal-roasted chicken while the pianist plays softly in the background. They’ll even keep your wine glass full.
Boteco.47

Savoring tapas as they arrive peu a peu is delightful no matter how many times you visit. And Boteco.47 in Almada is an excellent place to do just that. Not only do we love the Portuguese food, but this place is a well-oiled machine. There’s a pleasant terrace, and even when the restaurant is at its most lively on weekends, you’ll still typically find a welcoming spot for all diners.
Expect a happy atmosphere of contented conversation and friends laughing, and be sure to grab some ceviche and the fresh shrimp.
A Falua

We love A Falua for so many reasons, one of which is that pretty much anything goes. At this charming bar in Almada, we’ve witnessed friends laughing over drinks, couples sharing quiet moments, solo visitors enjoying a peaceful read, and groups celebrating small victories—all at once. No one cares. The other patrons are too busy savoring their tomato and mozzarella toasts. Plus, the welcoming outdoor seating area offers a space everyone in your circle can enjoy.

A Central de Queijas

A Central de Queijas is a wonderful family-run restaurant in Oeiras, serving authentic Portuguese classics like bacalhau, grilled sardines, and hearty stews. They really know how to make everyone feel at home—our neighbor’s son Miguel always asks for the simple rice and beans, and it’s the first thing his parents request when they walk into A Central de Queijas. That keeps Miguel content while the rest of us decide what we’re craving.

The colorful, modern yet elegant decor of this Almada gem feels like stepping into a princess castle, especially for those seeking a sophisticated escape from the city bustle. And for those seeking a sophisticated escape with stunning views, Charme is even more of a win, given the breathtaking panorama of the city and the Monastery of Santa Luzia that accompanies every meal.
The breakfast is rich and varied, including fresh fruit and elegant sparkling wine, which, frankly, we could go for right about now.

Order your own sweet treat so you don’t have to share. Set with simple, clean tables, the space is ideal for relaxed meals and take-away convenience.
Mundi food café

Mundi Food Café must have been created with families in mind. Not only does brunch here feature eggs Benedict and American-style pancakes, but the Almada restaurant offers Brazilian-influenced comfort food. And if you’re not sure what that means, just know there’s both a chicken burger resembling a bifana and sweet potato fries on the menu. See also: an American burger, pavlova, and a trilogy of tacos where the salmon ones are the star.
If you somehow can’t find the place, just look for the terrace with plenty of shade and high chairs for little ones.
