Hawaiian in spirit but more ranch-style in essence, The Saddle Room is one of those restaurants that knows good hospitality. So it’s no wonder that shortly after you’re seated, a basket of warm cornbread and sweet rolls will appear wordlessly on your table. The choice is particularly thoughtful. Sure, you’re in Waimea. But it’s the sign of people who know their comfort food. A cornbread won’t do for sopping up steak juices, but the dinky sweet roll certainly will.
Johnny’s Restaurant

There’s a touch of casual charm in everything Johnny’s does, so it’s no surprise that this extends to an immensely satisfying breakfast offering. The golf-course-adjacent spot in Waikoloa Village cooks all of its country fried steak fresh and approaches every table with a generous portion of crispy goodness. The latter is perfect for soaking up the rich gravy of Johnny’s signature loco Moco. A special word for the coconut Mai Tai too. It’s tremendous.
Seafood Bar and Grill

There is something magical about a good happy hour, and Seafood Bar and Grill knows this. The generous pours of beer without a foam head that are served at this tiki-vibe restaurant in Waimea go to show that it really is all about quality, not quantity. That said, the piping hot shrimp shumai and seafood quesadilla are paraded around the room and topped up as soon as you’ve wolfed the first one down.
The Bistro at Waikoloa Luxury Cinemas

This Waikoloa luxury cinema bistro is about as convenient as they come. You can tell by the parking, but also by the way the cult classic burger is assembled at the open kitchen, before it’s brought over on a plate to your table. Best paired with a cold beer and given a side of fries, this burger won’t be knocking on a gourmet chef’s door demanding accolades. But it does satisfy the appetite for a movie later.
Hau Tree

The view situation at Hau Tree is spectacular. Just like everything at this beachside spot in Waimea. Before your meal arrives, the scenery is presented. It’s overflowing with golden sand and turquoise waves that remind us of a postcard—in a good way. Hiding underneath are crisp, glistening pieces of grilled Mahi Mahi scattered with herbs, and then there are the springy, juicy burger patties. These are very useful for soaking up jalapeño sauce and sunset views later on.
Piko Coffee+Bar

Everyone loves a secret. But few are as intriguing, flavorful, and stunning as Piko Coffee+Bar’s. What goes into the jalapeño-hibiscus margarita is apparently hush-hush. All we know is that seeing a drink that glistens ruby red, has a touch of spice from the jalapeño, and has been crafted with what we can only describe as hibiscus, tequila, and citrus, has made this Waimea spot a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts over the years.
Binchotan Bar & Grill

At Binchotan Bar & Grill, servers float around with giant plates of tuna crispy rice like beautiful savory sirens. Much has been said about this unique Asian-influenced spot but not enough focus has been given to its pork belly fried rice. It’s rich, it’s flavorful, and it’s served in generous sharing portions. Which is the kind of hearty island comfort we don’t see enough of.
HALE KAI RESTAURANT

We’re not going to claim Hale Kai’s ocean views are the most breathtaking on the island—although watching the sunset with your toes in the sand is pretty spectacular. But the important thing to note about this casual outdoor restaurant at the Fairmont Orchid, is that they offer incredible service for dietary restrictions. Which means you could very well feel thoroughly accommodated before your Thai Green Salad or Grilled Ono arrives.
Copper Bar

There are many ways to celebrate, and Copper Bar has correctly realised that a patio with manta ray views is the most magical of them all. This Waimea restaurant is all lush landscaping and relaxed vibes, but with its attentive staff and special occasion energy it shows a side that’s more welcoming and memorable. Finished with a live music soundtrack and served with a side of beautiful scenery, this experience is glorious as is, or to linger at and soak up with.
