Almada’s burger scene is vast, a carnivorous treasure hunt across the city’s seven hills. Crave a classic smash? You’ll find patties seared on vintage griddles. Seeking something bold? The best double-stack comes with house-made kimchi in a tiled tavern. There are burgers with secret sauces, burgers in brioche, and burgers topped with aged cheese from local dairies, sizzling daily. Start working through the list.
Café do Rio – Craft Burgers
$ | 218 868 050 | WEBSITE

There comes a moment during your Lisbon visit where you must ask yourself a simple question: do I eat Portuguese or do I not eat Portuguese? If it’s a burger night, consider Café do Rio. This place is near the main attractions, so there’s enough calm to actually enjoy your meal like a person having a good time, instead of the rushed dining that makes you feel like a tourist on a tight schedule. As for the atmosphere, it’s usually something you recognize from old classics playing.
Sometimes there’s a gluten-free option, but you can just think of that as your small bonus for having a relaxed meal.
Hamburgueria do Bairro (Carnaxide)

Hamburgueria do Bairro has the vibe of a neighborhood joint that woke up one day and decided to become a proper burger spot. The space is clean and well-lit, with simple wooden tables and a few industrial-style pendant lights. In the back, there’s an open kitchen where you can watch the burgers sizzle. The burgers are tasty and well-presented, with quality ingredients and thoughtful plating.
Stop by if you’re looking for a straightforward, satisfying meal—just be prepared for a wait and don’t expect much chatter from the staff.
Holy Grail Burger

A good deal of burger-eating happens in Almada’s main squares, with fast-food chains doing most of the heavy lifting as far as convenience is concerned. Things feel a little more magical at Holy Grail Burger, a hidden gem worth seeking out with a pleasant interior that sets the tone for a delightful dining experience. The dining room is cozy year-round with warm lighting and comfortable seating, but you can also enjoy the unassuming atmosphere.
In keeping with the theme, everything in the room, including the menu, is presented in a unique, faux leather-bound book. It makes us feel like we’re in a medieval tavern from a storybook, and we appreciate that—as well as their reasonable prices. The tasty burger list has plenty of options for around €12, and full meals for around €20.
ESPETERIA BURGER

Looking for that perfect spot where your vegetarian friend can actually find something delicious to eat? Head straight to Espeteria Burger, one of our top picks in Almada thanks to excellent vegetarian options, a great terrace, and an inviting but not overwhelming atmosphere. This is also a great casual hangout spot—make it the first stop on a relaxed evening out (the music and accessibility make it welcoming for everyone). The prices are affordable, so you won’t break the bank.
Brazilian Burger House

This is one of the better choices in Almada for impressing someone with an interesting burger. The outside is marked only by a sign that spells out ‘burgers’ in simple lettering, but walk through and you’ll find a bright space with a clean, pleasant atmosphere. It’s straightforward but satisfying, with a modern counter and burgers that come on fresh buns, topped with flavors reminiscent of Brazil. Hit this place during their daily lunch special from 12-2pm, when certain burgers are $9.
There are only a few comfortable booths and counter seats, so no large parties.
H3 Parque das Nações
$$$ | WEBSITE

Almada has its own destination burger spot, and it’s the best place to gather a hungry group in the neighborhood. H3 Parque das Nações is part of the reliable H3 chain, and it delivers genuine family-friendly vibes, largely because the portions are so generous. The food arrives promptly every visit, and keeps satisfying until whenever your appetite feels like it, sometimes until you’re completely stuffed.
There’s no pretentious plating, just well-cooked meat and superb potatoes alike, served efficiently in the spacious room while staff members handle orders without disturbing the flow, and families wander in and out as they please.
Hamburgueria Cantinho Carioca 2

Hamburgueria Cantinho Carioca 2 is a local favorite, and now it’s a burger spot with very fresh ingredients. There’s exceptional meat, crispy potatoes, and divine sauces in a setting that doesn’t feel like a chain. Come with friends and play spot-the-ingredient with the quality burgers under the affordable menu prices (bonus points if you can find the perfectly cooked patty from the friendly service).
Bueda Fome

Bueda Fome is a burger joint with great food—our favorite kind of spot—and the perfect order is on almost every table. It’s the classic cheeseburger with crispy bacon and special sauce, and a side of seasoned fries: hot, golden, and served in a paper-lined basket. You could totally swing by just for a quick bite and a soda at this no-fuss place.
But with all the phenomenal burger making—and a kitchen that’s well-stocked by the friendly staff, who know how to handle real hunger—you’d do well to stick around for a satisfying meal.
Top Burger Margem sul

There are no frills at Top Burger Margem Sul. No fancy plating, no experimental toppings, no artisanal buns, and no gourmet sauces. It’s just a straightforward spot with carefully packaged burgers, highly recommended cheddar fries, and some reasonable combo deals. It’s also pretty versatile. Order for delivery when you want comfort at home, or grab takeout for a quick meal on the go. During peak hours it gets busy, and it’s a good place for a satisfying bite after work.
Friends Pub & Hamburgueria Artesanal (FRIENDS Pub & Hamburgueria)

Yes, Friends Pub & Hamburgueria Artesanal is technically in Almada. But we don’t really believe in Almada as just a location on a map. This burger spot has been serving since before it made any ‘best of’ lists, and over the years it’s established itself as an excellent place to eat well, relax comfortably, and feel genuinely welcomed. They’ve kept things simple and inviting, and now there’s even more reason for the satisfying meal you and your friends always end up sharing.
The Mexicano burger and fries are cooked to perfection, the staff is friendly and attentive with advice, and at around 11 euros 50 for that combo, it’s all reasonably priced. No complaints here—just a great place to visit.
Estação Mineira Hamburgueria Artesanal Brasileira

Estação Mineira feels kind of like a cross between a roadside stop and a neighborhood joint. It’s nicer than a fast-food spot (you can get picanha here), but we also wouldn’t call it upscale. This is the sort of place where you grab a burger with a friend on a Tuesday. There’s a cozy atmosphere, so it’s also great for when you want that meal without the crowds.
Urbano hamburgueria

Urbano hamburgueria has warm lighting, cozy tables, and a bustling open kitchen, and they also happen to make some truly exceptional BR burgers. Come for lunch—a classic burger with fries and a soda costs around €12—or late into the evening. Who knows, you just might need a midnight burger with their signature homemade mayonnaise, or the Urbano Special with crispy fries and that unforgettable sauce.
Hamburgueria do Rio

While settling into the vintage metal chairs on Hamburgueria do Rio’s patio, it’s easy to imagine you’ve stumbled upon a seaside gem in California or Florida. You could lounge by your own waterfront deck, somewhere in Malibu or Miami, biting into a juicy burger and dipping crispy fries into garlic aioli, just like you are now, a few steps away from the Almada bay. At the very least, this cozy burger joint would be perfect for a relaxed weekend lunch with friends.
There’s plenty of indoor seating too, and generous portions of fries to share at the table. Stop by for their daily specials like the chickpea burger for $12, classic cheeseburgers for $14, and craft beers for $6.
Atalho Real
$$ | 213 460 311 | WEBSITE

We’re into Atalho Real for the same reason we’re into Lisbon’s lively neighborhoods. Both are essential when you’re craving quality meat. This excellent steak restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who’s either casually or seriously into savoring perfectly cooked cuts with the first delicious side they see on the menu. Enjoy your steak and sides on the spacious outdoor patio, or take your meal to the main dining area, where friendly service enhances the atmosphere.
HomeBurger – Oeiras
$ | WEBSITE

HomeBurger is a compact, cozy spot, but with the heart of a really good neighborhood joint. There’s a simple counter up front and a few snug tables in the back, where people dig into burgers in between chatting with the friendly staff. The burgers are tasty, the service is on point, and it’s a solid pick for a quick lunch or a relaxed weeknight dinner.
MBH Hamburguesería, Alcântara

Alcântara’s best burger spots usually double as Alcântara’s best meat destinations, and in MBH Hamburguesería’s case, an Argentinian grill. A lot of people come in here to eat burgers until their stomachs ache, or join the crowd for the signature patty—the kitchen’s only Argentinian beef offering. Even more people file in at lunch for casual dining and patio seating—check their hours for the best time.
MBH Hamburguesería welcomes anything coming out of the Argentinian meat community, and most of it is exceptional. Save a few more euros during peak hours, when you can get a burger and fries for €16, and knock a couple euros off combos and specialty drinks.
Hamburgaria coquis

Hamburgaria Coquis is a burger spot in Almada. You’ve probably heard about their burgers from friends around town, but their restaurant offers some great views you won’t get from takeout. Weekend evenings here get busy, but the crowd during the week and on weekend afternoons is ideal for families, children, and fully grown burger lovers. Be warned: the menu could use more customization options.
