QDOBA Mexican Eats
$ | (717) 885-5203 | WEBSITE

Somewhere in York, there is a Mexican bowl waiting to be devoured. Why should you care? We’ll tell you why. At this QDOBA location, you can get a fantastic Surf and Turf creation packed inside a generously portioned bowl. The cilantro rice is fresh and we could eat a whole container of it alone (which they do offer), but the pulled pork inside is tender and full of flavour. You can customize with things like black beans, various sauces, and extra toppings, or you can keep it classic.
It’s a popular spot with a warm atmosphere so if you’re looking for quality, grabbing a quesadilla to go is always a solid choice.
Subway
$ | (717) 764-3329 | WEBSITE

York isn’t short on fast food joints when you’re looking for a quick lunch. But if you’re going to pick just one for reliability, it should be Subway. This familiar spot with its shared parking lot (15-20 spaces, though it can fill up) has been serving up customizable subs for years, and it shows. They’ve got all the basics covered with vegetarian options and the ability to swap any sub for a salad at no extra charge—perfect for dietary needs.
What’s more, most sandwiches fall within the $6 to $9 range. You can’t go wrong with a classic veggie delite or turkey breast, and we like to ask for extra veggies on them, because… well… freshness.
Epex Soft Pretzels Co.
$ | (717) 848-8488 | WEBSITE

Epex Soft Pretzels Co. is a welcoming local spot with a friendly counter staff who will effortlessly guide you through the menu of fresh pretzel sandwiches. Epex is an original for pretzel cuisine in York and the food isn’t for the fainthearted. The Italian pretzel sandwich is very good and the sweet bologna sandwich is intense. If you do happen to have less adventurous eaters among you, relax—there’s also warm, salty soft pretzels and pretzel sticks on the menu.
Burger King
$ | (717) 771-1380 | WEBSITE

York has plenty of fast food joints, many of which are just okay, but this Burger King is doing things right. We’re talking hot, delicious sandwiches and fries that hit the spot every time. The Sunday pie is a must-try, and honestly, it’s so good we’d skip the main course for it (crazy, right?). The friendly, attentive staff makes the experience even better, and their customer service really stands out from the rest. Overall, this location is a top choice when you need a quick, satisfying meal.
MOD Pizza
$ | (717) 855-2568 | WEBSITE

It’s not easy to find a fast-casual pizza spot in York that feels genuinely personal, but if that’s what you’re after, MOD Pizza will fit the bill. This is a proper little build-your-own joint with an open kitchen layout, entirely straightforward seating, and some secretly excellent toppings. Is the crust and some of the wait times slightly questionable? Yes. It absolutely is. But that’s a price worth paying for this breed of made-to-order cooking.
The menu stays consistent with a range of pizza options, focusing mostly on the popular Dominic MOD pizza, but if you’re feeling indecisive, you can’t go wrong with their friendly pizza makers who’ll build your pie just how you like it.
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen
$ | (717) 747-1005 | WEBSITE

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is one of the best fast food spots in York but unless you’re specifically looking for it, you might have driven past it countless times without realizing what you’re missing. It’s a reliable chain restaurant located in a convenient strip mall, but don’t let that make you think it’s either generic or forgettable. It isn’t.
We’re not saying you should expect gourmet dining, but considering how consistently good the food is, it’s a price we’re more than happy paying for a quick meal. The fried chicken is very good and you should absolutely come here during busy times when the place is buzzing with families. Order your favorite comfort food here with confidence.
Chick-fil-A
$ | (717) 757-7171 | WEBSITE

Every town needs a reliable spot. Your go-to when the kids are screaming for chicken. A saving grace when you’ve been running errands all morning and need something fast. For York, that place is Chick-fil-A. It’s a classic fast-food setup, but their chicken sandwich is around five bucks and it’s got to be one of the best quick meals in Pennsylvania.
McDonald’s
$ | (717) 845-9360 | WEBSITE

A familiar fast-food chain on York’s main drag, with a name that’s become synonymous with quick meals and a bright, clean dining room to match, this is a solid spot for American classics. Come here for some of the best Happy Meals in the area in a welcoming setting where you won’t be rushed. And if you happen to visit during peak hours, don’t miss the efficient drive-thru service that they’re known for at this location. Our favourite is the friendly help with special requests.
DQ Grill & Chill Restaurant
$ | (717) 846-5389 | WEBSITE

The first thing you need to do when you pull up to DQ Grill & Chill is order a Blizzard treat. The second is to grab a burger and fries. This cheerful fast food spot is near a Blizzard Run 5k sign and a small library and serves typical fast food, with ice cream as the special highlight. This is a great spot when you’re heading out with a big group of kids for a quick treat that requires a sweet finish.
Or with several friends, including someone who wants a twist cone with chocolate sprinkles and someone who insists on only eating the fries. DQ Grill & Chill has something that’ll please everyone. Just make sure you get that ice cream in so you’re pleased too.
Dairy Queen (Treat & Ice Cream)
$ | (717) 757-2221 | WEBSITE

This spot on York’s main drag is apparently the go-to ice cream destination for post-game celebrations. Their menu has everything from classic soft serve to specialty Blizzards, with the Oreo Blizzard remaining a fan favorite for its thick and creamy texture. Our recent favorites are the Peanut Butter Blizzard and the Choco Brownie Extreme Blizzard—both delicious, though we wished for more brownies in the latter.
You’ll find the soft ice cream is the best in town, with sundaes and cakes also receiving praise. The outdoor seating area creates a pleasant atmosphere where you can enjoy your treat while listening to music on beautiful days. There’s usually a short wait, but the friendly staff work quickly and the experience is definitely worth it.
York City Snack Shack
$ | (717) 467-3556 | WEBSITE

It’s basically impossible to walk through York on a hot day without asking one of the following questions. When did it get this humid? Where did all these people come from? And at what point did we all decide that sweating was a reasonable summer activity? But York City Snack Shack is actually a pretty delightful place to grab a quick bite, cool off for a minute, or contemplate how you’re managing to survive this heatwave.
The food here won’t blow you away but the price is unbeatable and there are plenty of hotdogs, pretzels, and popsicles to choose from come lunchtime.
Jersey Mike’s Subs
$ | (717) 900-1906 | WEBSITE

It’s lunchtime and you’re craving something substantial but don’t want to wait around. Head over to Jersey Mike’s where you can grab a quality sub that hits the spot without the fuss. It’s the kind of place in York where you can reliably get a satisfying meal (especially if you order ahead online and pick it up to go) and more importantly, the food is consistently excellent so you leave happy every time. If they somehow manage to mess that up, then feel free to take your business elsewhere.
But only after you try the rosemary bread.
Long John Silver’s | KFC
$ | (717) 848-3830 | WEBSITE

This dual-branded fast food spot sits in Lancaster County, PA, and could very easily be overlooked among the chain options. But the fried fish here really shouldn’t be. It’s served hot and crispy, and their Broaster Chicken is one of our favourite quick meals in the area. They’ve got seafood, chicken, and classic sides. The best part? It’s all under ten bucks, and the staff is consistently friendly and professional, even if you might find the occasional bathroom issue or soda shortage.
Taco Bell
$ | (445) 247-1859 | WEBSITE

When you first pull into the renovated location with its ample parking and excellent wheelchair accessibility, you’ll feel a kind of buzz we imagine is akin to discovering a hidden gem in a sea of fast-food chains. This place not only has friendly and attentive employees but everything from the burritos, folded better than at many other Taco Bells to avoid leaks or collapses, to the abundant toppings on fresh tacos is exceptional.
Plus, it’s all served quickly, with orders often exceeding expectations and ready in just a few minutes when you use the app. You should also expect reasonable prices: it’s about $8 for a satisfying combo meal. But it’s entirely worth it for this kind of reliably delicious and consistently positive experience.
Snow Palace
$ | (717) 846-7439 | WEBSITE

This York spot is making some of the best snowballs around. There’s a simple menu with classic flavors to choose from, including Purple Cow, Tigers Blood, sour cherry, and sour grape. While all of the snowballs are great, our favourites are the Purple Cow and the sour cherry. You’ll find regulars appearing out of nowhere and leaving with hefty snowballs to go, and you can watch as your syrup of choice is poured from glass jugs.
Syrup is generously drizzled over the fresh ice and each snowball can be upgraded to include free treats with a meal purchase. They’re generously filled, make a great summer treat, and once you try one, trust us, you’ll be back to taste everything on the menu.
