Some say Italian food is for special occasions. For anniversaries. For tourists. But when you crave that perfect al dente bite or a sauce that tastes like nonna’s kitchen, there are only two things that satisfy: a flight to Rome, or a table at one of these local gems. We’ve scoured Peabody for authentic, soul-warming, properly executed dishes, and these are the ones that made the cut.
Marco’s Restaurant
$$ | (978) 854-6906 | WEBSITE

Savoring a plate of perfectly fried calamari alongside some chicken broc ziti should be on just about every Italian food lover’s list. Marco’s offering makes the cut: the calamari, golden and crisp, and balanced with lemon zest and marinara, satisfies even after the rushed service at this Peabody restaurant.
Toscana’s Ristorante
$$ | (978) 535-0731 | WEBSITE

This Peabody Italian spot is like a cozy family dinner, complete with dim lighting and warm, attentive service. Don’t expect bright illumination though—the food here is wonderfully comforting. Try the tender veal Marsala or the perfectly cooked pasta.
Toscana Forno
$$ | (978) 896-6979 | WEBSITE

Topped with a dusting of cocoa and espresso, this tiramisu from Tuscany by way of Peabody is perfect in every way. Balanced by the layers, the dessert isn’t too sweet, with tons of nuanced coffee flavor. It’s plenty creamy, and would satisfy you even if that full restaurant noise was buzzing around your table.
Giovanni’s Pizza & Roast Beef
$ | (978) 535-0293 | WEBSITE

We love Giovanni’s for a couple of reasons. The first is that it’s been serving the community for over 30 years, and the second is that this casual Peabody spot has one of the most satisfying takes on roast beef that you can find in Massachusetts. Their famous roast beef is loaded with flavor, elevating what would otherwise be a pretty standard sandwich—and making it the perfect meal for a family dinner if you’re looking for a break from cooking.
Rizzo’s Roast Beef & Pizza
$ | (978) 531-2788 | WEBSITE

For a night of concentrated Italian-American eating, head to Rizzo’s Roast Beef & Pizza in Peabody. The cozy family-owned spot, from the owner Martin, has crispy thin-crust pizzas and flavorful roast beef sandwiches at all times, with everything from a delicious calzone to a top-notch service experience. The inviting interior, with calming LED lights and ample seating, creates a homely atmosphere that makes this a highly recommended dining destination.
Frankie Slice
$ | (978) 982-1800 | WEBSITE

Ok, this is kind of cheating—Frankie Slice’s sausage slice isn’t technically a gourmet meal, but more of a perfect pizza moment. The Peabody pizzeria’s reputation reads “voted best pizzeria in Massachusetts.” Take their word. Jumbo-sized pizza with super melty cheese and crispy pepperoni, served in a classic pizza box? Bliss. Grace. Perfection.
Capone’s Restaurant & Lounge
$$ | (978) 977-0520 | WEBSITE

Planning a fancy Italian dinner in Peabody can get pricey. Grabbing a seat at Capone’s Restaurant & Lounge is not. It’s a neighborhood spot that gets gussied up with live bands on weekends, bringing a lively, friendly buzz, and an instant shift to weekend-hangout mode. The turkey club is a standout, delivering that great price-to-quality ratio they’re known for, while the meatballs and chicken parm are simply fantastic. The chicken noodle soup? Outstanding.
Service is phenomenal—welcoming and attentive without any fuss. It’s perfect for hanging out with friends or a family meal, though maybe skip it for a romantic first date. Just remember the kitchen closes at 9 p.m., so reservations are a smart move. With free parking and a reasonable cover charge for the bands, Capone’s makes a delicious, hearty night out feel easy and affordable.
Santarpio’s Pizza
$ | (978) 535-1811 | WEBSITE

Santarpio’s Pizza is a place that feels like it was purpose-built to eat one too many slices, not that we’ve ever done that. The Peabody spot has been serving their signature pizza for over 30 years, but a cold beer is always on tap to wash it down. Enjoy it alongside a generously topped pie at a comfortable booth, where the seasoned sauce and grilled meats make for a satisfying meal that’s often better eaten with a fork and knife.
Daniella’s Ristorante
$$ | (978) 871-2942 | WEBSITE

Walk into any Italian restaurant in Peabody, and you’re guaranteed to find chicken parmesan on the menu. Switch it up every once in a while with Daniella’s ultra crispy calamari or stuffed squash blossoms. They’re $12 during dinner service at this cozy ristorante.
Petrillo’s Italian Kitchen
$$ | (978) 977-5330 | WEBSITE

File the generous portions at this cozy Italian kitchen in the fantasy section of the cookbook, because there’s definitely some magic involved here. The offerings stay reliably classic, but there are always a couple standout dishes available—all with more comforting flavors than you’d expect at such reasonable prices. Most recently, we loved a rich and satisfying Fusilli Avellinese with sausage, peppers, and tomato cream sauce.
Sit inside and share several, alongside some garlic bread and house salad.
