Despite being a stone’s throw from New Haven’s legendary pizza scene, West Haven sometimes gets overlooked when it comes to amazing pies. And sure, we might be somewhat lacking in century-old coal-fired ovens and neon-lit parlors (sorry, Wooster Street), but we can also lay claim to a surprising range of spots doing unique and delicious things with dough, sauce, and cheese.
Whether you’re looking for classic thin-crust, wood-fired Neapolitan, or a creative topping you didn’t know existed, there’s a pizzeria for you on this list.
Casa Bianca Pizza West Haven
$ | (203) 931-0666 | WEBSITE

Casa Bianca Pizza combines two things we like very much: cozy neighborhood spots and exceptional pizza. While you savor tremendously fresh pies at this walk-in-only West Haven gem, a friendly server might recommend a glass of Chianti to pair with your meal. Take the suggestion and continue working on your classic pepperoni pizza, creative specialty pie, or spaghetti and meatballs.
For a more adventurous experience, you can also spring for one of their specialty pizzas while seated in the warm, inviting space. Our favorite dish here is the classic pizza, which gets an electric jolt of flavor thanks to the perfect balance of crispy-chewy crust and the chef’s expert sauce and cheese combination.
Mike’s Apizza & Restaurant
$ | (203) 934-4933 | WEBSITE

Is pizza too simple to be considered a masterpiece? The answer is no, especially if you’re at Mike’s Apizza & Restaurant. Every pie at this West Haven institution (the kind of place you’ve loved for over 20 years) is light and crisp, but we especially love the broccoli Rabe pizza that effortlessly balances bitter greens with a mild, flavorful crust, and the calzone stuffed with excellent ricotta.
All orders feel complete with a simple house salad dressed in homemade Italian dressing, maybe with some cucumbers next time. If you’re here solo, get a slice that highlights the ingredients without being greasy or salty.
Michaelangelo Pizza & Subs
$ | (203) 389-1603 | WEBSITE

If you’re a family with picky eaters craving satisfying pizza, Michaelangelo Pizza & Subs is a good way to avoid spending too much time cooking at home. This casual West Haven spot has maintained its popularity from its busy-takeout days a couple of years back, and has become a neighborhood favorite that works for dining in or taking out. Almost everything on the menu is great, from those crispy eggplant pizzas to the flavorful bruschetta.
And if you need a break from the pizza, the tortellini à la carbonara is definitely worth ordering.
Falcon Pizza West Haven
$ | (203) 932-0000 | WEBSITE

At this unassuming Turkish spot in West Haven, you’ll eat pizza piled high with extra cheese, savory doner, and tender lamb stew. Falcon Pizza is home to one of our favorite hidden gems in town, and their welcoming hosts take the whole experience from good to great. The focus here is on fresh food, which means everything from the anchovies to the veggie options is delicious. It’s perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or when you’re looking for great value in Connecticut.
Cappetta’s Italian Imports and Pizza
$ | (203) 937-7485 | WEBSITE

Italian meals are usually a dinner thing, but for the best Italian lunch in town, head to West Haven and stop in at Cappetta’s. This order-at-the-counter spot is in a well-known establishment, that severely overlooked gem near the shoreline. You’ll like pretty much anything on the menu—the chicken Parmesan and the fresh subs are excellent—and you can be in and out in time to get back for your 1pm meeting.
Salty Tomato Pizzeria
$ | (203) 932-5353 | WEBSITE

The menu at this family-owned pizza spot in West Haven puts a clear spotlight on classic pies—there are options for cheese, meat lovers, and veggie-friendly red broccoli—and while all of it is excellent (definitely get the crispy-crust pizza), the dish you can’t leave without is the steak and cheese sub. Loaded with toppings and served with that same attention to quality, it’s enough food for at least two hungry adults.
We’d send you to Salty Tomato just for that, but that’d be a shame—because then you’d miss out on the kid-friendly macaroni dishes and that perfectly charred large cheese pizza for only $16.
Zuppardi’s Apizza
$ | (203) 934-1949 | WEBSITE

Zuppardi’s Apizza is a compact, single-room pizza joint in West Haven packed with locals and out-of-towners (plus affordable pies). This is the kind of straightforward, quality-focused experience we fully champion, where you pick your classic or specialty pie and trust the crisp, flavorful results. Between the regulars and the first-come-first-served seating scramble, it is an effort to dine in.
But order the white pizza with clams, the special with homemade sausage, or a simple cheese pie and you’ll be thoroughly satisfied.
Pizza Works
$ | (203) 932-1122 | WEBSITE

Turns out ‘works’ isn’t just a 1920s industrial term—it’s a promise of quality, and it’s the specialty at Pizza Works in West Haven, listed on the menu as their fresh and tasty pizza. And while you should definitely be ordering this superb pie, the other reasons to go out of your way to this local pizza spot are the flavorful salads and really any of the things they do with wings. Plus, they have a family-friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices. Bring enough friends to share a whole pizza.
Andy’s Pizza Restaurant
$ | (203) 932-0022 | WEBSITE

Andy’s Pizza Restaurant is a West Haven staple. It’s a cozy neighborhood spot, popular with families out for a casual (read: affordable) weekend dinner. And when you’re out for a casual weekend dinner here, you should be ordering the classic cheese pizza. It’s topped with fresh mozzarella and a tangy tomato sauce, and the smallest one you’ll be offered will be at least twelve inches, which means you should come with friends or just arrive really hungry.
Although the cheese pizza is the clear signature, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the rest of the menu—we love the vegetarian options and the tuna dish, in particular.
Tom & Pat’s Pizza
$ | (203) 932-5315 | WEBSITE

It’s a universal truth that pizza tastes better when you can see the beach while eating it, and Tom & Pat’s Pizza is our go-to spot for exactly that. Owned and operated by the welcoming Diana, this popular West Haven restaurant is here to satisfy all your pizza cravings with a view. The menu features local favorites—the magical Buffy chicken pizza rolls, top-notch calzones, and excellent grinders—and the easy parking and pleasant atmosphere make it ideal for enjoying the scenery.
Even with the affordable $12.99 large cheese pizza drawing crowds, we can’t visit West Haven without stopping by for that chewy yet crispy dough and flavorful sauce.
West Haven Pizza and Deli
$ | (475) 234-5974 | WEBSITE

West Haven Pizza and Deli is all about the fundamentals. The straightforward menu at this West Haven pizza spot and deli is filled with both classic options (the small pepperoni pizza with its perfectly crisp crust) and satisfying ones (hearty grinders and sandwiches worth exploring).
The space is cozy and there are a few small tables, but we strongly suggest grabbing a slice to go where you can watch the staff, in simple aprons, carefully slide a fresh pie from the oven before cutting it into those exceptional, generously topped slices.
Papa Dough’s
$ | (203) 380-2680 | WEBSITE

If you’re not from West Haven, you might think driving across town for some pizza is overkill. It’s absolutely not. A meal at Papa Dough’s makes you feel like you’re on a culinary adventure in Naples, especially if you can swing by for a weekday lunch when it’s less crowded. The Philly cheesesteak egg rolls are some of our favorite things to eat, and you should not miss the calzone.
