Reservations aren’t needed, but it’s a popular budget-friendly pick.

Open since 1978, Pastelaria Galeão is a neighborhood institution serving flaky pastries and rich cakes in their cozy seating area. The display case is filled with good treats, but their culinary masterpiece is the “Bolo de Bolacha” – it’s layered with a baker’s-worth of cookies, coffee, buttercream, and chocolate, all topped with whipped cream and is a must-order that can easily serve four people.
Pastelaria Galeão is open daily from 7am-8pm, with Inês providing excellent service for both walk-ins and orders.
Sushi Rairakku
Sushi Rairakku is open throughout the week, but you should visit during the evenings because that’s when they showcase their freshest sushi and most attentive service. Instead, it’s become my absolute go-to spot for a quick, satisfying meal near work. The vegetarian options are super tasty, and the staff is fast, friendly, and attentive, quickly solving any issues with professionalism. Be sure to try the crispy chicken—it’s consistently good and doesn’t overpower the rest of the meal.
The drive-thru can have a bit of a wait, but the convenience is worth it.
Mūa Hito Sushi Lounge
This sushi lounge in Algueirão-Mem Martins serves fresh, fantastic sushi with a great variety of high-quality pieces. You can’t go wrong with any of the nigiri or sashimi selections, but make sure the chef’s special rolls and delicate tuna tataki hit the table as well. This cozy pizzeria in Algueirão-Mem Martins is welcoming, delicious, and a tremendous option when you need a comforting meal without breaking the bank. There’s thin, flavorful pizza dough, standout garlic bread with that perfect aroma, and Sandra, the friendly owner who adds to the warm atmosphere. And, unlike other spots in the area, you’ll only need about two pizzas and garlic bread for two people since the total comes to just 18 euros.
Churrasqueira Franguito
This gluten-free Algueirão-Mem Martins spot serves the best roasted chicken for celiacs in the region. The chicken, marinated for hours, is perfectly seasoned and cooked to juicy tenderness, and it’s served with gluten-free bread that’s indistinguishable from the regular kind. Plus, all their fresh and tasty fish presentations are exquisite at affordable prices.
Churrasqueira RR
Thanks to word-of-mouth praise, glowing online reviews, and some of the most perfectly charred chicken in Sintra, this local spot is one of Algueirão-Mem Martins’ most beloved Portuguese grill houses. And though no one should come here expecting a life-changing plate of fries, a meal at Churrasqueira RR still hits the spot and is always a very good time. Right now, you can either dine at their original indoor tables or wait for one of the limited additional seats they’ve set up.
Either way, you’ll have attentive service from the excellent employee on the grill, go nuts on some of the best grilled meat in Sintra, and quietly order another round of baba de camelo for the table. They welcome walk-ins or you can plan ahead during busy hours.
O Melo (Churrasqueira O Melo)

O Melo has been a local favorite for years, and the menu hasn’t changed much since it opened. The signature dish is the traditional Portuguese grilled chicken, but we tend to go for either the perfectly-seasoned bifana sandwich or the build-your-own petiscos platter. And aside from serving solid food, O Melo is always a dependable good time, with the grill being fired up in the main interior dining room.
Plus, if you stick around long enough, the owner will probably bring a complimentary glass of house wine to your table. Their cozy dining room is open daily from noon until late.
