Forget the tired chains and predictable fare. Eastchester’s dining scene is having a moment, with chefs trading formality for flavor and locals flocking to spots where the plates are as vibrant as the neighborhoods. From cozy trattorias to innovative bistros, we’ve tasted our way through to bring you the 12 essential tables to book right now.
Jack’s
$$ | (914) 652-7650 | WEBSITE

Before you settle for just any pub grub, you should know that Jack’s, in Tuckahoe, only serves their buttermilk chicken sandwich during lunch hours and it’s worth planning your day around. But the sandwich is so consistently excellent we’d happily make it our main meal. The generously portioned chicken sits in a soft, fresh bun that holds the perfectly seasoned and juicy meat.
Plus the ‘Jack’s Irish Spice bag’ adds a wonderfully savory kick and the crispy fries provide an extremely satisfying crunch. It’s a reliably great experience, the kind that earns repeat visits.
Dunkin’
$ | (914) 793-1947 | WEBSITE

Specialising in the kind of fresh-baked donuts that resemble a baker’s pride, Dunkin’ is a convenient coffee spot in Eastchester. The setup is practical, straightforward, and uncomplicated, just like the variety-focused menu with donuts, bagels, and muffins. The coffee is excellent, with a smooth richness; the donuts are consistently good and fresh; and the service is prompt and accurate.
Toscana Ristorante
$$ | (914) 361-1119 | WEBSITE

Toscana Ristorante makes us wish we were celebrating. A glass of reasonably priced Chianti in one hand, a slice of fresh Bronx Terranova bread in the other. The pasta at this Eastchester Italian spot is made in-house and the osso bucco is a dish worth ordering. The menu offers satisfying portions at reasonable prices, from the light gnocchi pesto to the hearty rigatoni Bolognese. It sounds traditional but because everything’s prepared with care and attention, we like the Shrimp Farfalle.
Dining in the pleasant indoor seating area is like being in a cozy neighborhood trattoria, though. So we’d recommend settling in for the full experience. And just know that we’ve found the service to be fantastic and accommodating on every occasion.
J&G Deli and Market
$ | (914) 840-4123 | WEBSITE

Drive through Eastchester around noon and you’ll wonder why the line snakes out the door of this unassuming deli. Regulars shuffle past newcomers eyeing the chalkboard menu, while office workers clutch paper-wrapped sandwiches, nodding in approval. And they’re right, the much-talked-about caprese sandwich here lives up to the hype. The mozzarella is creamy, the tomatoes burst with freshness, and the basil adds just the right herbal note.
We do, however, adore their tender chicken cutlets and that pasta salad with sun-dried tomatoes—each bite is a little celebration. At about $12 a platter, it’s a steal for food this satisfying, served in a spotless, no-frills space where the owner might just slip you a cookie on your way out.
Paradise Bakery & Café (Formerly Chester Heights Pastry)
$ | (914) 488-6450 | WEBSITE

Paradise Bakery & Café, formerly Chester Heights Pastry, is from the people behind Chester Heights Pastry, so it’s little surprise its German-influenced desserts and pastries are spot on. When you’re looking for a fresh coffee cake in Eastchester, this local bakery is a go-to. The moist, flavorful cake is made with a cream-based recipe, topped with a crumbly streusel, a light dusting of powdered sugar, and a hint of cinnamon.
The reasonable prices and variety of items like lobster tails, Italian-style cookies, and honey buns make it a must-visit for dessert lovers.
Polpettina
$$ | (914) 961-0061 | WEBSITE

We’d be able to pick Polpettina’s Bolognese pie out of an Italian-American pizza line-up. We’re not bragging, it’s just that it has an obvious tell—that perfect, thin, crispy crust with the sauce layered right on top of the cheese. Alongside the fresh honey butter salad, it’s the highlight of the menu at Polpettina, an upscale pizza place that has settled into the open kitchen space in Eastchester. They have an attentive service philosophy, with servers going out of their way.
We appreciate this level of care, and when the ingredients are this sustainably sourced and the owner Mike’s welcome this genuine, you won’t need special requests anyway.
Piper’s Kilt
$$ | (914) 779-5772 | WEBSITE

Earning the top spot in our Eastchester pub rankings is classic neighborhood joint Piper’s Kilt—and it’s not because they don’t deliver a welcoming atmosphere. We appreciate the perfectly seasoned, crispy zucchini fries, hearty half chicken with creamy mashed potatoes, and generous pours at the bar. But there’s no ignoring the fact that the burgers don’t have that signature char. There’s no searing or crust formation at all on the patties.
That’s why we’re calling these burgers grilled, not griddled.
Gigante
$$$ | (914) 961-1001 | WEBSITE

Gigante is the perfect spot for celebrating life’s milestones, offering exceptional food, service, and a team that genuinely cares about every detail. They’ve mastered hosting memorable occasions like baby showers, birthday parties, and Father’s Day brunches, consistently delighting guests with their flavorful dishes and thoughtful service.
The restaurant sits within a local pool and golf club, featuring a spacious area that comfortably handles sizable gatherings, such as a surprise party for about fifty people. While the kitchen wraps up at ten, the elegant bar area provides a sophisticated setting for cocktails, though they might lean toward the premium side. Patrons have savored an array of dining choices, including shared appetizers and entrees like chicken parm.
With its outstanding service and picturesque environment, Gigante is a premier destination that guarantees a memorable experience and will surely be a go-to for future celebrations and romantic evenings.
Ciao
$$ | (914) 779-4646 | WEBSITE

Ciao is from the team behind some of Eastchester’s most beloved spots, and they continue to prove how good they are at putting Italian classics (in this case perfectly cooked salmon, veal, and chicken azel) on your plate. The lively dining room is staffed by an always-attentive team who bring generous portions of pesto to your already satisfied table as a talented trio performs songs from the 50’s to today in the background.
It’s just a few key elements—a fun atmosphere, consistently delicious food, and friendly service—and the ideal celebratory size to enjoy with friends or family, even if the music occasionally makes conversation a challenge.
Marigold
$$ | (914) 202-9455 | WEBSITE

This Indian spot in Eastchester has an excellent menu that includes a garlic-rosemary naan with unique doughy consistency. But the best thing here is the chicken tikka. Prep your taste buds and clear your schedule for this succulent dish—not ideal when you’re trying to save room for the coconut rice pudding. Take in the developed flavors, the tender meat, and the perfect spices.
And take it as a good sign that by the final bite, the butter chicken—now soaked in that rich sauce—is all but irresistible.
Sushi Castle
$$ | (914) 395-0888 | WEBSITE

The tempura at Sushi Castle is so perfectly crisp you have to eat it immediately—plates quickly become a precious commodity. This bustling, brightly lit sushi restaurant in Westchester is part casual dining spot, part shrine to all-you-can-eat sushi. And eating their fresh, well-presented sashimi does feel like a satisfying experience. The attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere, and amazing value really set this restaurant apart.
Giovanni’s Delicatessen & Catering
$ | (914) 793-0414 | WEBSITE

Giovanni’s roast beef sandwich has a generous but tender, slow-cooked beef portion, a double layer of melted provolone cheese, plenty of savory, house-made gravy dripping through the roll, and sweet caramelized peppers to finish it all off. This sandwich laughs in the face of the average deli offering. And we laugh in the face of anyone who hasn’t been to this lively Eastchester deli and tried it.
