Fenwick Island has seen (and survived) countless dining fads, but these restaurants prove some classics endure. They don’t require reservations months out, they’re perfect for a family dinner, and leaving one won’t leave your wallet feeling hollowed out. Sure, many might serve seafood, but locals know the subtle distinctions define excellence. Here’s how the shore’s top ten establishments truly stack up.
JR’s Seafood Shack
$$ | (302) 550-3474 | WEBSITE

JR’s Seafood Shack in Fenwick Island offers the same coastal comfort as any proper seafood joint, but what sets this festive spot apart is its creative use of local catches beyond the usual suspects: peanut butter pies, blue catfish po boys, and fried shrimp specials featuring ten jumbo shrimp. Those delightful twists do come at a cost, though—dishes tend to be a few dollars more than typical shacks, and there are fewer à la carte appetizers beyond the crab soup and Fried Tomato and Crab Stack.
The welcoming atmosphere, complete with friendly staff and a great selection of beers and bourbon, makes it a perfect spot for gatherings, especially with well-seasoned specialties like the stuffed lobster tail packed with lump crab meat.
Ocean Side
$ | (302) 539-5388 | WEBSITE

Ocean Side must pump something into the air (besides saltwater breezes) because whenever we leave the beach, we crave pizza. Luckily, this spot isn’t far. The cozy, simply decorated dining room is rarely packed, making it a reliable walk-in option after overspending on souvenirs. The menu features classic options like pepperoni and gringo pizzas, none of which come as a combo—so prepare to order them slice by slice.
These aren’t pies to cross town for, but if you’re craving some braided crust in a welcoming setting, Ocean Side gets the job done.
House Of Sauce
$$ | (302) 581-0592 | WEBSITE

If you’re hanging out in Fenwick Island and want straightforward wings, House Of Sauce is your best option. The unassuming local spot doesn’t get too wild with its concept, but they do offer a sizable selection of sauces like pineapple wings and old bay wings. We like the burgers at fancier places better, but in a pinch, this spot works for lunch hour or a quick bite after the beach.
Twilley’s Willys Hotdogs
$ | (302) 581-0255 | WEBSITE

Hot dogs and fries are classic, but we also appreciate a dog that gets a little wild. And that’s what Twilley’s Willys does best. The hidden gem in Fenwick Island has specialty dogs on its menu and each is dressed with more flair than a local hanging out on the back porch. There’s the crabby dog with its rich seafood flavor and a “Detroit” style dog with its unique toppings and snap. The “cubano” arrives with a blend of pork and ham flavors that feels like someone put a sandwich on a bun.
These dogs are on the affordable side, but you’re paying for a touch of fun—not unlike a quick drink and bite by the canal.
Our Harvest
$$$ | (302) 581-0377 | WEBSITE

At Our Harvest you’ll find incredible small plates in a cool rustic vibe—though you’ll literally have to find them first. This small plates spot is located in the easy-to-miss Fenwick Island strip, which is consistently a quiet escape. That’s a shame because the dishes here are unique as they are tasty: gnocchi with crab meat, Wagyu steak, and vegan paella that’s a must-order, plus creative cocktails that are delicious.
The food isn’t cheap, so come during the weekday lunch when the filling small plates are discounted to $18–$25. And make sure to savor the warm atmosphere that’s easy to relax in, with friendly staff who are very attentive about gluten-free needs.
High Stakes Bar & Grill
$ | (302) 537-6971 | WEBSITE

When High Stakes Bar & Grill opened its doors, the concept felt immediately familiar: walk in, settle at the worn wooden bar, and pick from the straightforward menu of local favorites. The cheesesteaks are quickly assembled in the open kitchen while you sip a cold draft beer, and in less than an hour, you’re satisfied and heading out. These days, the Fenwick Island establishment might be a regular haunt for both visitors and regulars, but it’s still the standard for great neighborhood dining.
The food here is as reliable as a favorite pair of jeans: expect crunchy rolls packed with a perfect balance of melted cheese and well-cooked steak. There’s also a well-run happy hour operation with standout steamed shrimp and cheeseburger sliders that keep the lively atmosphere going.
Matt’s Fish Camp Fenwick
$$ | (302) 375-2267 | WEBSITE

This casual fish camp in Fenwick Island sounds like a place your dad won’t stop talking about after his golf trip, except the food here is actually worth the hype. The daily chef’s special involves standard preparations like grilled fish and seafood and is on par with what you’d find at decent coastal restaurants—good, but not mind-blowing. The onion rings come served in massive portions to keep everyone satisfied, which is probably excessive if you’re dining alone.
The rib special with peach barbecue sauce costs around $28. We’d rather spend the same amount for superior fresh fish at a dedicated seafood house, or drive a few miles and splurge at a fancier oceanfront spot.
Vanderwendes at Fenwick
$ | (302) 519-2509 | WEBSITE

We never thought we’d see the day our usual ice cream spot was dethroned, but here we are: The best ice cream is at Vanderwendes at Fenwick. This pleasant outdoor ice cream stand offers delicious and huge scoops in a fun setting where you can get in and out quickly even with the lines. Whether you’re dropping in for a quick treat or coming for a refreshing sweet on hot summer evenings, the 2-scoop cone for $12 should be your baseline order.
It comes with one scoop of mint Oreo and one scoop of strawberry cheesecake. It’s enough ice cream to fill you up—two scoops are like six—and still have room to walk back home with your treat.
Yuzu Sushi
$$ | (443) 880-4738 | WEBSITE

Yuzu Sushi’s extensive menu is split between inventive sushi rolls and Japanese-inspired small plates, and we’re team rolls. The open-air patio in this breezy Fenwick Island spot sets the mood for a summer evening, and the sushi looks like something you’d order at a coastal celebration: a Tsunami roll heavy on jalapeño kick, a Sandbar roll with tropical pineapple, and a Spider Pig roll topped with local Maryland flair for some reason.
The abundance of eel sauce, spicy mayo, and fresh ingredients do a decent job of highlighting the fact that Yuzu’s rolls are expertly crafted, but we prefer starters like tuna tostadas with rich sauce and gyoza with addictive dipping liquid. Use this spot for flavorful bites, ocean views, and drinking cocktails like the Japanese Old Fashioned, and Yuzu is good fun.
Harpoon Hanna’s
$$ | (302) 539-3095 | WEBSITE

No, this isn’t some overproduced tourist trap where you have to navigate through souvenir shops just to find the entrance. It’s just a solid oceanfront restaurant right on the water in Fenwick Island. Their $28 bacon wrapped scallops appetizer, which comes with six perfectly seared scallops wrapped in crisp bacon, makes for an excellent start to any meal.
You can also look forward to enjoying them on the outdoor patio when the weather cooperates, which we assume is why half the tables have that slightly weathered but charming look.
