Dairy Queen Grill & Chill
$ | (778) 519-5099 | WEBSITE

By most measures, Dairy Queen Grill & Chill is the gold standard of fast food in Fernie. Sure, it might not have the elaborate atmosphere of other popular spots, and you’re definitely going to spend a little money here, but when it comes to the quality of burgers and ice cream, Dairy Queen can’t be topped. The large menu can be simplified by ordering the double cheese burger, which will commence a food parade of flavors, along with all the necessary Blizzard treats.
Friendly staff and quick service are mandatory, especially on weekends.

$$ | (250) 423-3075 | WEBSITE

As the name implies, this must-visit bar serves Fernie’s finest wings, with a superb crunchy breading and a variety of sauce options, including a standout sweet heat sriracha.
Nearly every table orders the wings that easily feed two to three hungry diners, which come with a mound of perfectly fried chicken, a side of crisp fries, and a selection of dipping sauces. From there, try the mouth-watering bison burger or the delicious vegetarian options, or share the massive nachos. Repeat until blissed out.
A&W Canada
$ | (250) 423-4333 | WEBSITE

A&W Canada is a reliable restaurant on the outskirts of Fernie where you’ll find one of our favorite meals in the area, the classic burger. A straightforward meal of a juicy patty, fresh toppings, and a soft bun served quickly, the flavors are so satisfying and consistent that you’ll appreciate this stop throughout your day to permanently cement this experience into your routine.
Then come the sides—which include a generous portion of golden fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Correction: A&W Canada has two of our favorite things in Fernie.
Graffito Pizza
$$ | (250) 946-7550 | WEBSITE

A visit to Graffito Pizza, a Fernie institution, involves multiple types of pizza, like the Gwan-chal-eh and Queen Mary. All of it is phenomenal and best when shared. With its cozy space and quick service, it’s a great spot for a casual dinner or for entertaining friends who love fresh, handmade pies. Also, don’t forget to order the honey and creamy garlic dipping sauces—they’ll ruin every other sauce you’ve ever had.
The Old Elevator
$$ | (778) 519-5198 | WEBSITE

If you’ve driven through Fernie, it’s clear as the Rocky Mountains that there’s no shortage of places to eat, preferably with a cozy vibe. And that’s what you’ll find at The Old Elevator, a comfortable restaurant where you can savor delicious Chinese food, chat with friendly owners who remember your order, and enjoy generous portions perfect for sharing.
Their standout wonton soup is the homemade, non-MSG broth we know and love, while the rest of the menu features consistent favorites, like crispy sweet ginger beef, saucy spicy mapo tofu, and chow mein that’s better when dining in than for takeout. The dining room is pretty cozy, though it lacks windows, and things tend to stay relaxed all evening, so free parking is a nice bonus.
Starbucks
$ | (250) 423-3681 | WEBSITE

Most people come to this tidy coffee shop on the main strip for one thing: lattes, a milky espresso drink that arrives mostly consistent, but with varying foam levels in the venti size that some find disappointing despite the high price. Throughout the day, regulars and people passing through fill the seats in this clean and organized location because it’s a reliable, convenient option in the neighborhood.
If you’re here for a treat, however, we suggest chatting with the friendly staff who take pride in ownership and make ordering a pleasant experience.
Bramasole Restaurant & Wine Bar
$$ | (250) 430-0526 | WEBSITE

Whenever we finish eating rich stroganoff and delicate scallops at Bramasole, we feel like we could float back home. This food is a comfort food paradise, and the restaurant plays live music that could lull you to sleep after your glass of wine on tap. Order the lasagna for $28 per person, which comes with a generous portion, a side salad, and warm bread.
Just when you think the cozy atmosphere will settle in, the friendly staff start layering bowls of gluten-free options, dairy-free alternatives, and veggie dishes on top of each other like stacking cups.
The Fernie Taphouse
$$ | (250) 423-6444 | WEBSITE

The Fernie Taphouse is not for the quiet dinner crowd or anyone who prefers stuffy dining rooms. At this spacious, lively bar, the patio buzzes with mountain views, live music, and the clink of glasses. Even though this spot is beer-focused, the $18 smash burger with gluten-free bun is the way to go. It comes with extra pickles and crispy fries that’s the satisfying bite you want after a day outdoors.
The staff, like Jaime and Dave, handles the friendly service and keeps the vibe going, too, which ends with a cold GF pale ale and maybe some nachos with pulled pork.
barBURRITO
$ | (778) 519-5111 | WEBSITE

For all you value seekers out there, barBURRITO is technically part of Fernie’s casual dining scene, which is located within the borders of convenient parking. But what’s most important here is that barBURRITO is a true Fernie gem—a place to find fresh and tasty Mexicali food in a simple, clean space that always has a satisfying meal waiting. You’ll want the generous burrito portions, a plate of flavorful ingredients wrapped in a warm tortilla crowned with fresh toppings that hit the spot.
Beyond that, the best way to eat here is to appreciate the friendly service and vegetarian options they’re excited about (we’ve never been disappointed).
Lunch Box
$ | (250) 423-4500 | WEBSITE

Lunch Box is a chill and always popular spot in the heart of Fernie, but unlike other grab-and-go places in the area, the two things you’ll find on every order are made fresh daily: the To Thai wrap and the tomato basil soup. That might seem like a lot of flavor in one meal, but the fresh and zesty wrap complements the fragrant herb-seasoned soup perfectly. Portion sizes for both items are borderline generous, so bring an appetite or else you’ll be carrying leftovers for later.
Bridge Bistro
$$ | (250) 423-3002 | WEBSITE

A mountain-view patio with a cold beer can fix most everyday problems. Well, it won’t get you out of jury duty, but Bridge Bistro’s excellent elk burger will undoubtedly cheer you up in the moment. This casual, family-friendly spot in Fernie by the lake mercilessly piles its burger with blueberry mayo so a unique and delicious flavor forms with each bite. One burger is filling enough to leave you slumped in your seat (the outdoor patio has those perfect relaxing chairs) so come hungry.
Or better yet, come with a group for a breakfast rotation—vegetarian skillets with garden-fresh veggies, ham and chorizo bowls topped with feta, and fish and chips with sweeter-than-usual tartar sauce. They also do a few pub-style bites, like duck wings and pork bites, but the clam chowder is the best option after all that hearty food.

$$ | (250) 423-7702 | WEBSITE

This warm and inviting spot off the highway is famous for its authentic Italian cuisine that satisfies any time of day. And for good reason: few dining experiences in Fernie compare. Groups gather around massive charcuterie boards loaded with prosciutto, cheeses, and accompaniments. Order the ricotta loaf as a starter, and they’ll bring it warm from the oven until it’s golden and fragrant. Beyond this incredible spread, the pastas are also worth your time, especially for dinner.

They make all of their ramen noodles in-house, and for $2 more, you can upgrade to the spicy tonkotsu shoyu ramen which is a little fiery and super rich.
Come by with a group of friends on a busy night, order some cocktails and a couple of favorite rolls, and be sure to include the tuna tataki and sticky toffee pudding (here, they’re perfectly balanced and satisfying).
Curry Bowl
$$ | (250) 423-2695 | WEBSITE

Sipping a super tasty cocktail on the only rooftop patio in Fernie isn’t the only reason people go to Curry Bowl, but it’s a big plus. The line of hungry guests that stretches out onto the street is proof that this South Asian spot is one of the best places to eat in town. A plate of pad Thai runs a little over $15 with spring rolls, and the dish is just that perfect combination of tangy and savory. You might have to wait a bit for a table, but it’s worth the hassle.
The Don Buri has a cult following for a reason.
The Chopstick Truck
$ | (250) 946-5000 | WEBSITE

The Chopstick Truck in Fernie is known for its massive T-Wrap, mostly because it’s a perfect blend of meaty, crispy, sweet, and salty. And while a huge wrap packed with so much goodness it keeps you full all day is absolutely a reason to come to this outdoor food spot, we enjoy the whole experience here. The Chopstick Truck’s offerings include ‘Pho-licious’ soup with tender steak slices, soy chicken subs, gyoza, beef vermicelli bowls, and kimchi fries that are next level.
It’s an ideal meal on a sunny afternoon or really any day that you’re in the mood for fresh, flavorful food with amazing views.

Happy Cow Ice Cream Inc. in Fernie offers a wide variety of creamy, delicious ice cream flavors, including dairy-free options that you’ll be dreaming about all summer: honeycomb, which is loved by almost everyone, honey ice cream, and Johnny’s addiction. For all its nostalgia, though, Happy Cow is still a neighborhood ice cream shop, and on most afternoons, the place is filled with cheerful families debating how many scoops of honeycomb they need for the cone.
If you’re looking for a charming spot with huge scoops, Happy Cow has that going on, too—just plan on showing up early to grab a seat by the jukebox, some honey ice cream, and a taste of that delightful dairy-section smell.
Cirque Restaurant And Bar
$$$ | (250) 423-2056 | WEBSITE

You’ll find elk dishes at most mountain restaurants in Fernie, but Cirque goes beyond. There are exceptional options here, from crisp feta and watermelon salad to perfectly cooked salmon and duck entrees. When it comes to main courses, the elk bolognese is the specialty—it delivers on flavor and portion size, and comes with a delicious sauce. It’s very good, but we like the simple, refreshing Cucumber Vodka Caesar cocktail even more.
