Despite its name, you’ll want to eat a lot more than just the tacos from this spot in New Braunfels. And once you look at the menu, you will end up ordering a lot more. Virtually every dish is delicious, from the bean and cheese tacos with their double tortilla, to the parrillada sizzling platter that serves all the sides for groups.
The al pastor tacos are of course lovely – with the tender marinated pork particularly good – and there’s also a very good (and value-packed) sirloin or chicken taco special. The salsa bar offers several kinds of salsa in varying heats, along with jalapeños and sliced cucumber, and the flower and corn tortillas are never doughy or too thick.
With prices under $20 for a full meal and friendly staff who speak Spanish creating a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a favorite stop before heading back to Austin.
The Gruene Door
