Welcome to Prior Lake, Minnesota—or as some locals affectionately call it, the 10-square-mile paradise where lakefront serenity meets suburban sprawl and weekend boat traffic rivals rush hour on 35W. It’s a charming contradiction, but whether you’re here for the quiet coves or the bustling marinas, there’s one thing we can all celebrate: the dining scene is absolutely worth the trip.
Culver’s
$ | (952) 226-7101 | WEBSITE

You know we’ve reached peak fast-food nostalgia when a chain like Culver’s still draws crowds—and somehow it’s really satisfying. A little greasy? Perhaps, but at least the Butterburger is hearty and familiar, the custard is creamy, and the quick service via drive-up menus or QR codes is perfect for convenience. It’s not particularly energetic, but if you do want some enthusiasm, hopefully you’ll catch the friendly staff on a good day.
This is easily the most reliable spot in Prior Lake, and considering the spacious atmosphere keeps things pleasant even when service could be more lively, the appeal is clear.
Wilds Pub
$$$ | (952) 445-4455 | WEBSITE

Surprise, surprise. The single most famous item on the menu at Wilds Pub is also the best, and if you come to this place without trying these glorious hot honey chicken strips, you probably shouldn’t even tell people you visited. Yes, there are lots of different appetizers and entrees these days (like the incredible seafood chowder and pork belly appetizer), but there’s still something so pure about the crispy-sweet chicken original.
Whichever dish you go with, just be sure to ask for a side of the colcannon to pair alongside. It’s creamy, comforting, and takes this famed pub food to a completely different level.
Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant
$ | (952) 226-2990 | WEBSITE

Of all the spots that catch your eye in Prior Lake, Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant is absolutely not one of them. It’s basically the neighborhood joint you’d drive past without a second glance, probably most famous for being the place families give up and go for something easy. But there’s a little secret inside – the complementary chips and salsa. This generous basket of warm chips, served with that salsa that always has just the right kick, might be the most overlooked treasure in the whole town.
Perron’s Sul Lago
$$$ | (952) 440-1411 | WEBSITE

A filet and caramel ice cream in the top picks? That’s Prior Lake magic, folks. Perron’s Sul Lago has the best overall dining in the South Metro, and this smooth dessert is the star. We don’t care if it’s date night and there’s more buzz in the atmosphere than conversation at the table, ordering this flavorful scoop with its hint of salt (what’s sweet without a touch of savory?) is always a brilliant idea.
PLate
$$ | (952) 440-5500 | WEBSITE

PLate has a lot going for it: an impressive drink list with great tap beers and signature cocktails, friendly and attentive service that includes helpful recommendations, and specials like the $100 Wednesday date night deal that offer real value. But our favorite feature is easily the BBQ shrimp tacos from their varied menu.
We like all the dishes that are served there, but it’s the tacos’ mix of smoky shrimp, fresh toppings, and zesty sauce that remains closest to our consistently satisfied appetites.
Ofelias fresh Mexican food
$ | (612) 990-2904 | WEBSITE

Without consulting any food blogs or local guides, we’re going to assume Prior Lake has always had a soft spot for authentic Mexican cuisine, because tucked away in this Minnesota town is an absolute gem—the beef brisket burrito at Ofelias Fresh Mexican Food. This monster comes with perfectly seasoned rice and beans, plus an enormous portion of tender, smoky brisket that’s so rich and satisfying, you’ll forget how cold it still is outside in January.
The Meadows Bar and Grille
$$ | (952) 233-2880 | WEBSITE

Tucked away from the bustling casino floor lies The Meadows Bar and Grille, a surprisingly pleasant escape from the slot machines and poker tables that dominate the scene. This quiet retreat offers a refreshing change of pace with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. The patio provides beautiful sunset views over the golf course, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a long day.
The menu features solid options like the popular smokehouse burger, Nola Shrimp, and a standout giant pretzel with cheese sauce that’s perfect for sharing. While the food timing can occasionally be off during busy periods, the dishes themselves are well-executed with crispy fries and good seasoning. The staff remains kind and attentive even when things get hectic, and the manager and hostess handle the crowds with genuine politeness.
It’s not a fancy steakhouse, but for a casual meal with decent happy hour deals like $5 chips and salsa, it’s a fine substitute that won’t leave you disappointed.
Edelweiss Bakery and Wine Bar
$$ | (952) 440-2773 | WEBSITE

There’s a reason your morning commute forces you past Edelweiss Bakery and Wine Bar every day: they know you’ll need it. Most breakfast spots in Prior Lake are downright forgettable, but sometimes, your body’s screaming for some early sustenance and you forgot the granola at home. Grab a Boston cream doughnut. You can find them at a few bakeries around town, but we like the ones at Edelweiss because they’re conveniently located on everyone’s early morning sprint route to the coffee machine.
The Pointe Grill & Bar
$ | (952) 855-9856 | WEBSITE

Look up “family-friendly dining done right” in the dictionary and you’ll find a picture of The Pointe Grill & Bar’s patio seating. Yes, it’s spacious, comfortable, and the radio volume is perfectly balanced so you can actually hear your table without disrupting others. But we say bring the whole crew, because you’ll be rewarded with an atmosphere that ranks as the very best in Prior Lake in our books.
There’s a spot to let the kids play games and enjoy free ice cream while you figure out which seasonal special to try next.
Lakeside Eats and Treats
$ | WEBSITE

It’s not a matter of if, but when, you hit your sugar and energy crash during a Prior Lake summer day—which is why having a predetermined sweet retreat is essential. Our go-to spot is Lakeside Eats and Treats. This charming ice cream shop is somewhat tucked away from the main bustle with plenty of counter seating, lots of natural light, and treats from the community-focused establishment.
We like a lot of things on the organic, diet-friendly menu here (the dairy-free chocolate swirl is our favorite frozen treat in town), but the standouts are the gluten-free smoothie bowls—creamy, vibrant blends featuring a mixture of fresh fruits and superfood toppings. They also come with a drizzle of local honey for extra sweetness.
Boathouse Brothers Brewing Co
$ | (952) 381-9307 | WEBSITE

Given that Boathouse Brothers is a brewery first and foremost, we have to assume the beer-making supplies on display aren’t just for show. There is one standout brew here, though: the Birthday Cake Cream Ale. This version of the classic cream ale is made with a smooth, malty base, subtle vanilla notes, and just enough sweetness to balance the hops, plus a hint of birthday cake flavor for some needed fun. It’s a refreshing, well-crafted beer that’ll keep you sipping until the last call.
Plus, the lively atmosphere that comes with the boat seats and garage windows is even better than the beer.
Charlie’s On Prior
$$ | (952) 226-5253 | WEBSITE

Perched above the shimmering waters of Lake Prior where families flock for summer fun and inevitably test their patience with parking, Charlie’s On Prior is a pretty standard lakeside restaurant. And by pretty standard, we mean delightful—except for the parm garlic fries. Golden and crispy, tossed with garlic and parmesan, they’re a delicious side and the perfect snack to munch on while watching boats glide by and listening to live music drift across the deck.
Scooter’s Coffee
$ | (952) 447-2233 | WEBSITE

Let’s get this out of the way—there isn’t a more divisive item at Scooter’s than the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte. Whether it’s actually coffee, or dessert, or liquid sugar ripped from the soul of a breakfast cereal mascot, we can all agree it has the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the taste buds. But here’s the thing. This sweet concoction is oddly satisfying and an easy way to let everyone in the drive-thru line know you’re here for a good time, not a long time.
Doherty’s Tavern
$ | (952) 447-9010 | WEBSITE

You just finished eighteen holes at Heritage Links and you need a cold one. Go settle your score at Doherty’s Tavern. One of the few spots in town with this kind of rural charm, because that’s simply how this place works. Residing right by the best golf course around, Doherty’s is a pretty solid all-around hometown bar, and this faint attempt at keeping things simple should be your go-to move.
T.J. Hooligans
$ | (952) 447-6668 | WEBSITE

Considering how good the fried pickles are at T.J. Hooligans, we had high hopes for the bone-in wings. They did not disappoint. These crispy wings feature flavorful dry rub options, properly cooked skin, tender, juicy meat, and a satisfying crunch. Bar food at strip mall spots tends to be somewhat heavy affairs (see: cheese curds) and these are no different. Give yourself at least a half hour before heading back out into the Minnesota winter.
Caribou Coffee
$ | (952) 219-7997 | WEBSITE

No, this isn’t some artisanal third-wave roastery, but still it’s a delightful neighborhood spot and absolutely charming. Tucked away in Prior Lake, this cozy location is also enjoyable because you get to settle into one of their comfy chairs and reflect on the fact that, for about five bucks, you’re getting both a delicious hot berry white coffee and a genuinely friendly smile. Cheers to that!
Mystic Steakhouse
$$$ | (800) 264-2821 | WEBSITE

While some might balk at the prices for the wedge salad and steaks, Mystic Steakhouse could very well be the best all-around dining experience in Prior Lake. The melt-in-your-mouth steaks are fantastic and something we’d actually crave outside of a special occasion, but the flavorful fried Brussels sprouts, delightful deviled eggs, and signature cocktails are just as good.
Perhaps our favorite feature, however, is the warm, attentive service, which makes customers feel special with the friendly manager’s welcoming presence.
