Folks might say Queensbury and Saratoga Springs are worlds apart. In some respects, they’re not wrong. But focus on the dining landscape, and you’ll discover we’re more alike than you’d think. This list highlights Queensbury establishments that feel like familiar friends—a cozy tavern reminiscent of The Local. Consider them kindred spirits across town lines. And if you love one, you’ll likely adore the other.
Lox of Bagels
$ | (518) 793-8681 | WEBSITE

Lox of Bagels is a destination that specializes in dough with character. Queensbury’s Lox of Bagels is fittingly dedicated to the bagel, what some folks refer to as a New York morning ritual. And the establishment is dedicated to the breakfast sandwich, the satisfying one we’ve been craving since the days when coffee was just coffee. At Lox of Bagels, you’re enjoying cannolis. At this spot, you’re savoring omelets.
While they may be offering different morning delights, this place is where you can eat with your hands and remember that simple pleasures still exist.
Applebee’s Grill + Bar
$$ | (518) 793-5420 | WEBSITE

For casual dining in Queensbury, Applebee’s and a few other chains fill similar roles. Applebee’s is mostly a sit-down situation, and unfortunately doesn’t have the same quick-service feel as some competitors. But there are some booster chairs available for families, which Applebee’s also provides. Both types of places feel like reliable options. Applebee’s kind of is—they offer a varied menu, but their service can be hit or miss.
The food just delivers a decent experience with some hits and misses.
Ambrosia Diner
$ | (518) 636-5486 | WEBSITE

To enjoy a hearty breakfast in a cozy diner while the morning bustles outside is one of the great American comforts. And Queensbury’s Ambrosia Diner delivers this comfort just as well as any classic roadside spot. This is a charming retro operation with a welcoming atmosphere and breakfast plates that always satisfy. Ambrosia Diner’s focus is on generous portions, which is why you should be ordering the country breakfast here (although we also love the turkey dinner and pesto sandwich a lot).
99 Restaurants
$ | (518) 798-0699 | WEBSITE

Most Queensbury locals know you have to head downtown for the best burgers in the area (and The Grill for the best prime rib and steaks). But you could also go in the opposite direction instead: out to 99 Restaurants on the edge of town. The American restaurant doesn’t have a fancy reservation system—more like a come-as-you-are vibe.
You order your Mushrooms and Swiss burger at the table, and within a reasonable time, you’re eating a generous patty topped with so much melted Swiss and sautéed mushrooms, you’ll struggle to keep it all between the buns.
Kerrie’s Northway Diner
$ | (518) 741-0323 | WEBSITE

You go to Kerrie’s Northway Diner to slide into a cozy booth and order homemade specials until you can barely move. You’re going to any classic American diner for the same reason. Except (forgive us, other diners) the service is better here. The corned beef hash is crispy enough to make you forget any other version, the pancakes are huge and fluffy, and the singing skeleton at Halloween is festive enough to trigger nostalgia.
Try to order something off the regular menu in addition to the daily specials, like the excellent take-home desserts.
Friendly’s
$ | (518) 792-1338 | WEBSITE

Friendly’s and a fine dining establishment do not have a lot in common other than food. Friendly’s is a family-friendly restaurant full of parents and children in casual wear. It is a cozy Queensbury spot. And yet, you’ll find this restaurant equally as packed on a weekend afternoon because of the one thing it does best: comfort food. If you love watching a pastrami sandwich arrive with crispy fries, Friendly’s delivers.
And while some places are focused on fancy dishes, Friendly’s has other options to enjoy, like rich and creamy sundaes and kid’s menu items.
Asia Delight
$ | (518) 792-8790 | WEBSITE

So you like unassuming Chinese-Thai strip mall restaurants? Well, if you find yourself in Queensbury (an epicenter of upstate New York Asian restaurants), stop by Asia Delight, which we love for many of the same reasons we love other reliable spots in the area. Portions are generous, menus are big, and you can get lots of the Asian classics (beef lo mein, egg drop soup, pork lo mein) that are hard to find done well around here.
Asia Delight is a little more generous with the friendly service, too.
The Tavern
$ | (518) 409-8845 | WEBSITE

Queensbury and Saratoga do cozy taverns very differently. Some spots are polished affairs, with reservations, bustling weekend crowds, and servers in crisp uniforms. At The Tavern, they only ask that you’re ready to relax, provide you with fresh, homemade food, and let you settle into a quiet, conversation-friendly atmosphere. The Tavern and its polished counterparts deliver different experiences, but the spiritual core of both can be summed up by one word: welcoming.
Jack’s American Bistro
$$ | (518) 798-1797 | WEBSITE

Jack’s American Bistro and The Queensbury Tavern are two neighborhood spots serving classic American fare and rocking a warm, welcoming vibe. Jack’s has more variety on the menu and a crusted salmon that everyone should drive to Queensbury at least once for. At The Queensbury Tavern, there’s a bigger focus on burgers.
But what you’ll see at both places are regulars enjoying plates of chicken piccata and Faroe Island salmon, taking homemade bread to go, and liberally utilizing the attentive, caring staff.
Noon Whistle Deli
$ | (518) 798-6666 | WEBSITE

Noon Whistle Deli in Queensbury falls into a category we’re calling ‘irrationally large sandwiches you can eat by a lake.’ While some delis lean toward classic New York-style (and mostly designed for quick lunch breaks), Noon Whistle is firmly upstate comfort food. We always get the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel here, loaded with crispy bacon and perfectly melted cheese. The deli also has that charming hand-drawn chalkboard art throughout, so you’re probably smiling more than you realize.
Good Vibes 518 Nutrition
$ | (518) 636-3792 | WEBSITE

Good Vibes 518 Nutrition is all the buzz in Queensbury right now. You could head to a chain smoothie shop for your protein fix, but you’d pretty much be getting the same drink, only more expensive and with less personality. Instead, swing by for their Elvis protein shake and cafe latte, which those chains don’t offer (yet). This spot—run by the owner who creates opportunities for young and special-needs individuals—is basically a welcoming neighborhood hub.
Get the protein cake pops and let the friendly, knowledgeable staff guide you to the perfect drink based on your preferences, which is about 100% delicious.
Crave Pizza
$ | (518) 798-3000 | WEBSITE

If you’re a New York-style pizza fan, we’re going to assume you like thin crusts, excellent sauce-to-cheese ratios, and friendly delivery drivers to bring it to you. So we’re going to send you to Queensbury’s Crave Pizza. There are lots of delicious pizzas on the menu, which has the same reliably tasty energy that pulls us towards authentic New York slices.
Crave is a tad pricier than some chains, but not unreasonable, and also has a little delivery radius that can reach nearby spots like the Lake George RV Park. And yes, there are technically other pizza places in Queensbury, but you can never have too many go-to spots in your rotation. Plus, Crave has a full menu of salads and wings, so you can bring friends who couldn’t care less about crust thickness.
O’Toole’s Restaurant Pub
$ | (518) 793-3389 | WEBSITE

Peak dining satisfaction feels like getting your sports fix and enjoying a great meal at the same spot. You can do that at O’Toole’s Restaurant Pub, a local Queensbury establishment with an Irish pub atmosphere and a menu full of generously portioned comfort food. O’Toole’s hefty $12 burger special day, featuring big, juicy 1/2 lb burgers cooked to order, would be a great deal even if the food was average, but this is some of the best pub fare we’ve had in the area.
The chicken wings, fresh and sauced well, are another standout that makes this place worth returning to.
Queen of Harts Pizza
$ | (518) 798-4278 | WEBSITE

You could fit about three or four typical pizza joints inside Queen of Harts, a Queensbury staple with a surprisingly accommodating approach, sweet crusts, and an early closing time that still draws loyal crowds. Whereas most spots might stick to rigid menus, Queen of Harts is flexible enough to handle dietary tweaks like an Eggplant Melt without the roll. But both styles deliver pies you’ll savor with genuine affection.
At Queen of Harts, you can also find a personal pizza that feels like a heartfelt tribute.
Smoothie King
$ | (518) 338-3571 | WEBSITE

Genuine smoothie spots. Every town deserves one, and Smoothie King is our favorite smoothie place in Queensbury. It’s a lot like other health-focused cafes because both spots offer refreshing options, occasionally provide noticeable wellness benefits, and make for perfect post-workout stops. There are more elaborate menus and seating areas at other cafes. At Smoothie King, there’s a focus on straightforward service and value. But it just means you can feel better more easily.
Dave’s Hot Chicken
$ | (518) 742-8102 | WEBSITE

It’s going to be a little hard to go back to ordinary chicken sandwiches after you have the one at this Queensbury spot. Dave’s Hot Chicken is a destination restaurant for any upstate New Yorker who loves bold flavors. The spicy kick here doesn’t just jump off the plate—it’s launched at you through a flavor cannon. It should be a lifelong goal of yours to eat through the entire menu, but start with the crispy chicken sandwich and those flavorful cauliflower dishes.
Try to go at off-hours, since the bustling environment can get intense.
Silo Restaurant & Gift Shop
$ | (518) 798-1900 | WEBSITE

By now, lots of Queensbury locals know that Silo Restaurant & Gift Shop is the place to go for affordable, delicious plates of massive portions. The rustic charm hasn’t quite reached that status yet among tourists, but it deserves to be just as known. If you’re only getting one thing, make it Silo’s pancakes. The fluffy texture does not overwhelm the plate so much as it drapes over it like a warm blanket. It’s got the indescribable flavors that emerge when something has been made with care.
Go here if the wait at other family spots is too long (they share that cozy atmosphere).
