It’s that time again. The summer crowds are descending, the ferry lines are forming, and your weekend plans are calling. With its charming harbor and sun-drenched streets, this routine is frankly old hat for most Long Islanders. Reminder: We live where others vacation, and they need sustenance. Welcome to the table.
TOA Asian Fusion (Sayville)
$$ | (631) 567-8888 | WEBSITE

Tucked away in Sayville, this spot delivers consistently great food at fair prices without the fuss. And though the full dinner experience is absolutely worth your time and money, a multi-course sit-down meal just isn’t your old friend who you’ve only ever seen in jeans’ tempo. Here’s the move – just hit the lunch special, grab that dangerously good lychee martini, and casually debate whether the rock shrimp tempura or pepper chicken deserves the crown.
Sal’s Pizzeria and Catering
$ | (631) 567-1269 | WEBSITE

Your picky friend from out of town is visiting again and thinks chain pizza is still so great. Prove her wrong (and maybe ruin her for other slices) by taking her to Sal’s Pizzeria and Catering. Located right in Sayville, Sal’s is serving outrageous pizza and it is actually mind-blowing. Yes, the place got smaller after renovations and yes, it can get a little messy during busy times, but this order-at-the-counter spot is worth every bit of the squeeze.
Aegean Cafe
$ | (631) 589-5529 | WEBSITE

DINING TIP: Don’t settle for ordinary. Your taste buds crave adventure and at Aegean Cafe, you’re getting a Greek experience you never knew you needed. Not to be confused with those generic Mediterranean chains, Aegean Cafe is a more authentic (and still completely affordable) restaurant tucked away in Sayville with warm, welcoming vibes and delicious homemade dishes.
And right at the heart of it all is the food, with surprisingly generous portions and some of the most memorable flavors on Long Island.
The Cull House
$$ | (631) 563-1546 | WEBSITE

Listen, if you’re looking to satisfy that seafood craving and show your friends that Sayville has more to offer than just a pretty harbor, The Cull House is how you make it happen. This isn’t where you roll in with a loud crew looking for a party scene. This is where you appreciate a cozy atmosphere, pull up a chair at the bar, and experience some of the freshest, most perfectly executed seafood in town.
The Greenery
$ | (631) 485-3500 | WEBSITE

Your cousin just drove in from Montauk and she’s already complaining about how she’ll never eat healthy in the city. Give her a damn kale chip and then get her to The Greenery for what will definitely be a taste of freshness. It’s not our favorite salad spot in town (that would be Greenleaf) but it’s still fantastic and the perfect place to reset after a weekend of indulgence in Sayville.
Brunch Sayville
$ | (631) 319-1556 | WEBSITE

My cousin from the city is visiting and she just, like, has to find a cute brunch spot. Skip those overhyped downtown cafes and get her to Brunch Sayville. This charming little restaurant is easily your best bet for a cozy morning meal, with friendly staff and fun, eclectic decor that makes you want to linger. Major bonus: they have warm homemade cookies and the delicious “All Day Sammie” with potato hash, organic pork sausage, and fluffy scrambled eggs in a homemade biscuit.
It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing meal, especially with that quaint atmosphere and the promise of outdoor seating opening soon. Sure, there might be a wait for the food and parking can be limited, but the fresh, yummy dishes and attentive service make it totally worth it. This creatively designed space is a hidden gem in Sayville—don’t miss those weekend specials with locally sourced ingredients.
Umberto’s of Sayville
$ | (631) 563-1000 | WEBSITE

Yep, all we have here are pizza. Sayville and pizza. Nailed it. OH COME ON. This town is full of traditional pizzerias and Umberto’s might just be one of the best in the entire area. Grab a slice quickly because the cozy, bustling space fills up fast. But trust us, Umberto’s is a vegan-friendly pilgrimage worth the trip.
Starbucks
$ | (631) 573-0222 | WEBSITE

It’s Monday morning. You’ve pulled three all-nighters in a row and you want to collapse and/or curse your laptop. The only solution is Starbucks and our favorite pick-me-up in town: that caramel macchiato. You could point to the friendly baristas who make it with care but for us it all comes down to that temperature. That perfectly hot, not-too-bitter brew. Just mobile order it and avoid the occasional mix-up.
The Sayville Inn
$$ | (631) 319-6774 | WEBSITE

Chances are when your cousin from out of state visits and says they want seafood, they actually mean they want fish and chips. No shame there. But seafood is much more than that and they’re in Sayville to experience it. The Sayville Inn’s lively atmosphere might not be for those seeking quiet dining, but it remains very welcoming and a comfortable place to get a little rowdy as well.
Ramen Ramen
$ | (631) 589-1213 | WEBSITE

There’ll come a point in your friend’s visit where you’ll have to remind him there’s way more here than just typical takeout. Case in point – Ramen Ramen. This small, unassuming Sayville spot feels like a hidden gem you’d find in a Tokyo alleyway, where the owner personally checks on you and there’s even a surprisingly affordable heated counter for waiting.
The menu is ramen-shop style, which is basically a step up from fast casual (pork gyoza, bulgogi beef bao buns, vegetable fried rice), and also won’t break the bank.
Friendly’s
$ | (631) 589-6188 | WEBSITE

Yes, there’s a family restaurant in the heart of Sayville. Yes, it’s entirely composed of smiley faces and nostalgia. And yes, it’s absolutely delightful. The popular eatery is known for being especially good for families since the kids’ meals are made with care, but there’s a simple approach. Embrace the memory and order one of their great sundaes, and chances are you’ll feel that childhood joy return. Friendly indeed.
Dark Horse Coffee & Kitchen
$ | (631) 256-6988 | WEBSITE

Dark Horse Coffee & Kitchen is one of Sayville’s best spots and you’re craving it badly. But you’re also juggling dietary needs and just want to find a place that actually gets it without making a fuss. Accomplish both with Dark Horse, the cozy neighborhood gem with fantastic vegan chicken tenders and adaptable wraps to satisfy all your restrictions. Get the wrap.
Dunkin’
$ | (631) 750-6107 | WEBSITE

Coffee is another must-have for anyone visiting Sayville and Dunkin’ is the obvious move. No place gives you the premiere coffee and affordable prices quite like Dunkin’ and your chronically still-figuring-it-out friend on a budget will appreciate that. While there are locations nationwide now, we recommend going back to where it all began: Sayville.
Jade Garden
$ | (631) 567-8228 | WEBSITE

The Chinese food scene in Sayville is still waiting for its spark, so in the meantime, you’re taking your visiting cousin to one of our town’s best. Jade Garden sits on a quiet stretch of Main Street, but with plenty of copycats in the area it’s not always the easiest to find. But once you do, you’ll be treated to some of the best chicken and broccoli you’re ever going to find. Get out of your usual routine and go experience a local gem.
Local Burger – Sayville – Restaurant and Bar
$ | (631) 750-7070 | WEBSITE

Speaking candidly from one human to another, you simply don’t turn down a casual evening with friends over juicy burgers and crispy fries. And at Local Burger, you get all of that and more. They definitely provide some amazing food for your casual cravings, but you’re encouraged to enjoy the outdoor games and big screen, and you should. So round up all the buddies and prove to your friends that life is better with hot honey chicken sandwiches and enthusiastic service.
Blackbirds’ Grille
$$ | (631) 563-4144 | WEBSITE

If you have friends coming into town and DON’T plan a dinner at Blackbirds’ Grille, just give them a godd*mn refund. Insanely good ribs can basically be found anywhere in this area, but our choice is Blackbirds’ Grille in Sayville. This local standby is still one of the most reliable casual meals around with a great watering hole vibe your college buddy just can’t get back in the suburbs. Two words: Falling ribs.
Sayville Athletic Club
$ | (631) 319-1700 | WEBSITE

Wait, but you thought all people eat in Sayville is kale smoothies and quinoa bowls. Get real. We’re not going to pretend Sayville isn’t into the healthy lifestyle, but when we throw down we throw down. And while there’s plenty of excellent wings around Sayville these days, we keep coming back to the OG sports pub – Sayville Athletic Club. Some people will say this place is overrated, and those people aren’t to be trusted.
Your cousin from the city didn’t even know you could get brisket that tender, and that’s about to change.
Ralph’s Italian Ices
$ | (631) 439-9700 | WEBSITE

There’s always that sweltering afternoon in July when you realize you have no damn clue how to cool down the kids. Take them to Ralph’s Italian Ices. No matter how picky your newly dairy-avoidant little cousin is, Ralph’s has you covered and spending an hour lingering around the cheerful seasonal spot with its convenient parking is a perfect way to beat the heat.
Fritzsche’s Bakery
$$ | (631) 589-0586 | WEBSITE

Your cousin from Manhattan insists nothing compares to those old-school bakeries she remembers from the city, and it’s time to prove her wrong. Fritzsche’s Bakery is a charming institution that has anchored this community for over fifty years and captures everything that makes a local gem special. Delicious German butter cake? Dream bars that live up to their name? Friendly staff who remember your order? She might just start making the trip out to Sayville every weekend.
