We love Squaw Valley. Truly, we do. But we’re also happy to admit that the après-ski scene can be a bit of a gamble. One minute it’s crisp mountain air and breathtaking views, the next it’s overpriced burgers and two-hour waits. The good news? You can find authentic alpine escapes right here. Namely, at these restaurants. Après-ski boots and celebratory champagne encouraged.

If magnificent food, attentive waitstaff, and a constantly evolving menu is your kind of dining experience, then Wolfdale’s Cuisine Unique will feel like a celebration away from celebration. The North Tahoe restaurant has a warm and familial atmosphere of the most welcoming variety, every day of the week. Sugar Pine Cakery & Cafe

The best thing about a hidden gem, other than the obvious sense of discovery, is you kind of feel like you’ve found a secret. Which is why we always make the effort to seek out this Squaw Valley spot, tucked away from the main drag, because a little search equals reward, right? Breakfast here comes with a healthy dose of friendly service, buttery berry scones, and strong coffee.
Grab a table, order the bacon and cheddar biscuit with a London Fog, and don’t make any plans soon after, because you’ll be lingering over that excellent drip coffee for at least a couple of hours.
Christy Hill
$$$$ | (530) 583-8551 | WEBSITE

If you have ever dreamed of dining on the edge of a mountain lake, you’re going to love Christy Hill. This premier, elevated restaurant overlooking Tahoe has floor-to-ceiling windows, a complimentary basket of warm, crusty bread, and a soundtrack of gentle jazz and lapping waves. Gaze longingly at the ‘TASTING MENU’ section on the seasonal menu—or at the sunset view, if that’s your preference—and then enter a truly profound flavor haze as delicate halibut and rich venison tartare hit your table.
Bienvenue en paradise, bébé.
Mountain Slice Pizzeria and Creamery
$ | (530) 583-0000 | WEBSITE

Pack your appetite, you’re heading to West Shore. Full disclosure, you don’t actually need a reservation to devour your weight in sauce-heavy pizza at this popular pizzeria, but for the sake of getting a table, we highly recommend it. Beyond the fun atmosphere with arcade games, there’s light and airy Detroit-style crust, $5 craft beers, and epic slices of flavor-packed pizza.
We’re partial to the chill vibe inside that’s reminiscent of a late-night hangout spot, but if the weekend’s busy, you should call early for dinner orders and feel free to set your status to ‘consuming wings’.
Spoon
$$ | (530) 581-5400 | WEBSITE

There are a handful of cozy mountain restaurants scattered around Squaw Valley, but only Spoon manages to really whisk you away from the bustling ski village it’s nestled in. At night, when the room is full, soft lighting casts warm glows, and the crackle of the fireplace fills the air, making this place a real sanctuary.
Despite being indoors, the converted A-frame beams, rustic wooden tables, and truly exceptional creative dishes like the poached pear mac and cheese gracing each table, remind us of a cherished family cabin—without anything feeling forced.
Bear Mountain Pizza

A meal spent at Bear Mountain Pizza’s beautiful outdoor location, complete with a Trail Blazer pizza and those BBQ spicy flavor wings, is a meal well spent indeed. The family-friendly pizza spot near Squaw Valley knows how to make people feel at home. The service is generally friendly, the dough is made fresh in-house, and the entirely accessible restaurant (yes, this is an ideal stop for any pizza-loving friends) has something for everyone.
Shadyside Lounge
$$ | (530) 584-2985 | WEBSITE

One of our favourite ways to spend an evening in Squaw Valley is… to pretend we’re not in Squaw Valley. Shadyside Lounge, a Mexican restaurant and bar on the West Shore, has the kind of open air backyard that makes you forget that you’re just minutes away from the ski slopes. A dinner here consists of things like veggie tacos filled with guac and salsas, garlic shrimp dishes, and carnitas tacos and burrito bowls.
The bar has a bunch of well-made cocktails, from margaritas to local specialties, so you can take that vacation feeling home with you.
Crest Cafe & Catering
$ | (530) 581-3037 | WEBSITE

Crest Cafe & Catering, with its cozy riverfront seating, friendly service, and satisfying breakfast burritos, will act as a welcome morning ritual for many visitors. This homage to hearty breakfast spots all over Lake Tahoe is right in the thick of it near Squaw Valley. But Crest’s warm atmosphere and careful preparation feel far away from the typical tourist trap.
It’s not just an aesthetic either: there’s the spicy kick of the Angry Dirty Chai Tea Latte and tender pancakes as good as you’ll get from a dedicated local kitchen.
Fire Sign Café
$ | (530) 583-0871 | WEBSITE

You could convincingly argue that Fire Sign Café is about as Tahoe as it gets. It is Squaw Valley, you know. But after a trip to this wood-paneled pub, your mind and soul will be elsewhere. The comfort food experience is both Tahoe down to a tee and somewhere that feels removed from the mountain proper. Come when the morning is fresh, get some bakers Benedict hot off the griddle, and slip some berry compote over their signature coffee cake.
Generous plates of home fried potatoes will be sizzling too, and you’ll be more than tempted to have a seat in this campy yachtclub-style space for a minute, or an hour.
Clingan’s Junction Cabins & Coffee
$ | (559) 446-5285 | WEBSITE

Few things spell ‘road trip’ like steaming mugs of honey orange blossom lattes, worn board games on wooden tables, and genuinely welcoming service. Clingan’s Junction has all three. The coffee shop near Squaw Valley is charming in every sense of the word. It’s a spot that specializes in two things: high-quality coffee—think white chocolate mochas or caramel frappes—and a vibe so tranquil it feels like it’s come straight from a national park brochure.
