We could measure our year by the miles driven or the hours spent scrolling, but we’ve decided to measure 2026 by counting the exceptional sandwiches we devoured in New Braunfels. From brisket-stuffed kolaches that arrived still steaming to muffulettas that came wrapped in wax paper, whether we ate them at a converted gas station or under live oak trees, they were undoubtedly the best bites of the year.
Firehouse Subs New Braunfels South
$ | (830) 626-1305 | WEBSITE

This club sub on garlic bread exemplifies what we love best about Firehouse Subs: their fresh, generous food that you’re probably not finding elsewhere. It comes piled high with quality ingredients that you’ll want to savor with each bite, as well as crisp vegetables and tender turkey in a soft casing. Our only regret was not ordering a side salad to go with it.
Schlotzsky’s
$ | (830) 629-2811 | WEBSITE

There are only a handful of truly reliable sandwich shops in New Braunfels, and Schlotzsky’s is one you need to visit, if only for their Original sandwich. It’s loaded with fresh meats, crisp vegetables, and their signature sourdough bun that’s toasted to perfection. Instead of just another fast-food experience, this is a sandwich that guarantees you get quality and care in each bite.
The friendly staff handles everything professionally, and the welcoming atmosphere makes it a spot for everyone, with ample parking and a clean, accessible space. While vegetarian options are limited, what they do offer is consistently good.

$ | (830) 214-6648 | WEBSITE

Your first stop at Subway, a sandwich shop in New Braunfels, should absolutely involve some version of their Spicy Italian sub. Get it with all the veggies. For $8, you’ll get a footlong with fresh, soft bread, zesty Italian dressing, and a crispy, pepperoni-packed filling that will satisfy you and spark genuine delight.
Before long, you’ll start telling anyone who’ll listen about Subway—where you can eat delicious sandwiches, sip on soda, sit at a clean table with bright lighting, and get your order handled with care by Amari or Doug.
ThunderCloud Subs
$ | (830) 626-8805 | WEBSITE

We divide our lunch breaks into periods called Before ThunderCloud (BT) and Post-ThunderCloud (PT), and you will too once you try the Cali Club sandwich from this casual counter-service spot in New Braunfels. Served on fresh bread that could use toasting but still holds up well, this popular sandwich gets its appeal from generous portions of turkey, bacon, and avocado that you’ll see piled high between the slices.
After a couple of satisfying bites straight from the wrapper, customize your creation with extra onions and fresh sprouts, then top it with creamy mayo, crunchy lettuce, and juicy tomato slices.
Jimmy John’s
$ | (830) 626-3591 | WEBSITE

If you’re craving a quick, satisfying sandwich in New Braunfels, you need to try Jimmy John’s. The classic Italian sub arrives at the counter looking picture-perfect before being wrapped up for your immediate enjoyment. The bread is fresh, and the ingredients are some of the most flavorful we’ve had anywhere in town. And, since the sandwiches are made with such speed and care, a single visit can easily solve your lunchtime hunger.
Jimmy John’s ‘freaky fast’ service feels like a reliable staple for a no-fuss meal in 2026, and we’d gladly stop by this spot just to grab another sandwich all over again.
Jersey Mike’s Subs
$ | (830) 387-4851 | WEBSITE

The first time we left Jersey Mike’s, we were only thinking about two things. The first was how grateful we were to our former selves for making the trip across town. The second was this cheesesteak. Even if you’re not usually wowed by thinly sliced ribeye, melted provolone, and grilled onions, you will be when the crew at Jersey Mike’s combines these ingredients together on a roll. The best thing about this sandwich is the garlic-heavy oil and vinegar dressing they drizzle on top.
It almost tastes peppery like oregano, and it perfectly complements the savory steak and melted cheese. (There’s a chance this might not be your exact order when you go to Jersey Mike’s, since they customize every sub to your preference. If it isn’t, we’re deeply sorry, and we mean that.)
Chicken Salad Chick
$ | (830) 227-0270 | WEBSITE

After tasting the Sassy Scotty chicken salad, we nearly abandoned all other sandwich options. This flavorful creation blends tender chicken with just the right amount of spice, served on fresh bread with crisp lettuce. Paired with a side of broccoli salad that has the perfect amount of creamy dressing, it feels like you’re indulging while still eating something wholesome.
Plus, unlike typical fast-casual spots, these remarkable salads and sandwiches come with extras like a crunchy pickle and a sweet sugar cookie. Try the jalapeño holly on a toasted croissant next time you need a lunch that’ll transport you from your Wednesday workday.
McAlister’s Deli
$ | (830) 358-5166 | WEBSITE

For $12, McAlister’s Deli offers their generous Savannah Chopped Salad with almonds, blue cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, dried cranberries, and chicken. You can either use the convenient drive-thru or visit their New Braunfels location, which is fully staffed and ready to serve. Whatever you decide to do, this is hands down one of the best sandwich shops in the area.
You’ll get a satisfying crunch from all the almonds, but this also comes with gluten-free bread options, if you want to customize your meal. The space between tables is comfortable, and the staff is always friendly and attentive.
Cravings
$ | (830) 626-2728 | WEBSITE

Cravings is a welcoming, weekday-only sandwich shop in New Braunfels that truly lives up to its name, and it’s worth planning your entire lunch break around. The gluten-free bread for the sandwiches is baked fresh daily, and it gets layered with fillings like chicken pesto, chipotle chicken, and grilled cheese alongside sides like pasta and fire crackers. These are significantly more comforting than sandwiches we’ve had in the past, but that’s not a bad thing.
The bread is perfectly toasted, flavorful throughout, and each bite tastes wildly satisfying from all the care. Stop by with a friend, and show them one of NB’s best new comfort food spots.
Which Wich Superior Sandwiches
$ | (830) 214-6644 | WEBSITE

When you’re customizing your sandwich at Which Wich Superior Sandwiches, a New Braunfels spot that’s been revitalized under new ownership, the staff member Mari might suggest you ‘try the crinkle cut fries.’ We can’t emphasize Mari’s recommendation enough. The first time we ordered these fries, we automatically reached for ketchup to mask whatever blandness might be there. That was a mistake, and we regret it.
These fries are as crispy and satisfying as the highlight of a comfort food commercial, and they come seasoned with just the right amount of salt.
