Then we remembered that most of us at Infatuation MI have spent summers craving fresh catches by the bay. So maybe not so niche after all—essential, in fact. If you’re dreaming of buttery scallops and lakeside views, consider this your guide. Here are the spots that deliver.
Asian Buffet

One never needs an Asian buffet, except maybe right now. (Note: not all buffets are created equal. We can explain.) Don’t get the crawfish and definitely don’t skip the hibachi. Blandness is a big no-no while dining. That means you’ll have to navigate your $18 all-you-can-eat, sushi-filled, beef-sometimes-salty feast with caution. And before you complain about the price in front of the Regulars of Asian Buffet, remember that you shouldn’t take yourself that seriously.
You just spent $18 on a buffet. (A good buffet, nonetheless.)
Harrington’s By The Bay

At some point during your seafood cravings, you’ll reach a breaking point and feel like a landlocked soul on the verge of a meltdown. Lean into it at Harrington’s By The Bay. For $45 per person, this unpretentious bayfront spot serves a fantastic seafood experience that includes a wide variety of options like beer battered cod, bacon wrapped shrimp, and the flavorful Walleye served over risotto. It’s seafood heaven.
Depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, you might have to pass on the delicious non-seafood options like burgers and ribeye. Oh well, more halibut for you.
Thirsty Fish Sports Grille

When was the last time you ventured into this loud, sports-packed place? Well, get familiar with it. The fish and chips are either awesome or just all right, depending on who you ask.
The Tasting Room Restaurant

The Tasting Room evokes something chain restaurants never will. Maybe it’s the exceptional dining experience, or maybe it’s because we seek it out when we’re celebrating something. Either way, take your appetite and expectations to The Tasting Room in Traverse City and order their standout dishes: the perfectly cooked NY Strip, the fantastic Grouper, and the Chocolate Cheesecake that receives nothing but praise. The Ahi appetizer and pizzas are also popular, with the pizzas cooked to perfection.
While some dishes may have too much sauce, the overall quality is excellent. The craft cocktails and wide drink selection shine, with the bar very well stocked, especially whiskey and bourbon. The service is friendly and attentive, with staff going above and beyond—Chef Steve even came out and conversed with guests. The atmosphere is beautiful and clean with outstanding decor, attracting both young professionals and mature foodies.
It’s a little pricey for the portions, but the dining experience is awesome and worth it. The Tasting Room is a must do when in Traverse City.
Red Lobster

You’ve finally reached the point in your week where you can treat yourself to a proper seafood feast. Congratulations! You (and your taste buds) must be thrilled. Lobster is thankfully succulent, satisfying, and expertly prepared, and few places do it better than Red Lobster. The kitchen leaves it perfectly cooked and seasoned on the outside, but tender and juicy on the inside. Go all in on the attentive service from staff like Tiia and Travis.
Thai Kitchen

You could go to any old Thai spot, but that’s just regular takeout. You need something truly memorable because you’re craving flavors that will actually stick with you. What you need is an authentic Thai restaurant in Traverse City. Thai Kitchen claims its dishes are freshly prepared, too, but we don’t care about that. We care about their delicious highlights, like drunken noodles with tofu veggie and the delicious Gang Curry. Just make sure to get the bubble tea.
The last thing you need is to miss that perfect finishing touch.
India Garden

Please order the tikka masala chicken and mango chicken curry for takeout and savor them on your cozy dining table. The occasional service delay shall pass, but your newfound appreciation for flavorful Indian cuisine will be forever.
Slate

Calamari = disappointing. Wagyu tenderloin = perfectly prepared. Thai peanut noodles = tasty. The one at Slate is especially enjoyable thanks to the attentive staff and pleasant ambiance it’s floating in.
Frida’s Mexican grill

You shouldn’t order things like nachos because of the current state of your appetite, but what if said nachos came loaded with flavorful beef, chicken, and great refried beans? Call it an exception if you want. The dish is generous and satisfying in a substantial way, as opposed to a heavy way. Maybe save room for the wet burrito, though.
Boathouse Restaurant

The Boathouse Restaurant knows how to make a halibut, with an emphasis on halibut: think flaky texture, buttery smooth, perfectly seared. Sometimes, it takes having limited seafood options to appreciate the little details.
