Forget the dry-aged tomahawks and white-tablecloth prix fixes. These Somerville steakhouses are where you can grab a perfectly charred ribeye after work, or bring the whole family without mortgaging the house. Here are 17 spots that deliver honest, satisfying beef—no gimmicks, just great meals.
Alba Restaurant
$$$ | (617) 376-2522 | WEBSITE

There’s no shortage of fine dining in Quincy, but that doesn’t mean Alba Restaurant doesn’t serve some of the most memorable meals in the whole area. The move here is to settle in for a proper sit-down dinner: lobster ravioli, Bolognese, and chocolate cake for two are some of our favorites. Spread a white cloth on your table, let the lively atmosphere wash over you, and savor Alba’s Albanian-inspired bounty for a unique, welcoming meal in your Sunday best.
Tony’s Pub & Grill
$$ | (781) 599-5522 | WEBSITE

Tony’s Pub & Grill is a neighborhood-worthy spot in Somerville, Massachusetts. The combination of sports memorabilia and large flat-screen TVs at this casual pub makes you feel like you’re hanging out at a friend’s living room. Expect to hear lots of game commentary while you dig into the entire order of steak tips that should be the centerpiece of your meal. Add some pub classics like satisfying French onion soup and chili, and save room for a cold beer from their full bar.
Frank’s Steak House
$$ | (617) 661-0666 | WEBSITE

One day, we’ll get a more casual version of a classic steakhouse where you can order a single filet and book a table without having to plan weeks ahead like you’re preparing for a state dinner. Until that happens, the closest we have is Frank’s Steak House. This reliable spot in Somerville serves consistently wonderful food that’s full of highlights like the perfectly cooked Sizzler and boneless ribeye.
Most steaks are cooked to your exact request, and there are usually only a few standout sides on the menu, which you should always consider carefully. The best experience comes with the attentive service, but there are also those excellent starters like the arugula salad and French onion soup that make the meal complete.
Texas Roadhouse
$$ | (617) 381-9598 | WEBSITE

When you walk into Texas Roadhouse, the first things you’ll notice are the lively atmosphere and friendly servers, so you know this place is the real deal. Dining here feels like stepping into a classic American steakhouse where good portions and amazing service are the main attractions. Stick to the staples, like the steak, fried potatoes, and multiple appetizers. When the bill comes around, be prepared to advocate for yourself if there are any issues.
It’s one of the most affordable steakhouses we’ve tried.
The Bancroft
$$$ | (781) 221-2100 | WEBSITE

Heading to Somerville for a perfectly cooked steak at The Bancroft’s inviting tables is a local culinary tradition, but it would be a mistake to write this classic establishment off as merely a steakhouse. The Bancroft makes some of the best American fare in Massachusetts, so it’s worth getting a reservation to try their very good non-steak options. We especially love the bone marrow, the baked clams, and any dish paired with their refreshing peach sangria.
The Palm – Boston
$$$$ | (617) 867-9292 | WEBSITE

The Palm is a Boston restaurant where you can enjoy a drink at the bar during the day in a warm, wood-paneled room with leather banquettes. Or, visit later in the evening when the dining room fills up with professionals celebrating over prime steaks and martinis. This place serves perfected classics like a juicy bone-in ribeye, a generous lobster tail, and a comforting chicken parm—but pay special attention to the seasonal specials.
Past favorites include an inexplicably flavorful corn cacio e pepe and a vibrant broccolini dish. The attentive staff and manager create a welcoming environment, though service can occasionally feel rushed during peak hours. With private rooms and an indoor-outdoor patio, it’s suitable for everything from business dinners to special occasions, offering a memorable dining experience that feels nothing short of extraordinary.
Eddie V’s Prime Seafood
$$$$ | (781) 221-7151 | WEBSITE

Visit Eddie V’s Prime Seafood on a special evening, and the elegant ambiance immediately sets the tone for a memorable experience. Begin your meal with the seafood tower, try the crab-stuffed shrimp, and savor as much steak and seafood as you desire. The South African lobster tail is consistently excellent, although it’s about as indulgent and impressive as a luxury vacation. And that’s only a slight understatement.
This place has a sophisticated dress code, they recommend reservations, and the bar with live music is a perfect spot for a romantic date.
Bogie’s Place
$$$$ | (617) 338-5333 | WEBSITE

If we rated steakhouses purely on how good they are at cooking steak, Bogie’s Place would get a near-perfect score. The steaks at this Somerville spot, which has one of the most authentic speakeasy vibes in the city, are all perfectly cooked, and they’re consistently delicious. Try the juicy ribeye or the NY strip with amazing bone marrow and onion jam.
We also like the outstanding crab cake and the fact that their ‘cocktail menu’ includes complex drinks like the Bijou and Espresso Martini that they serve in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere.
LongHorn Steakhouse
$$ | (781) 942-4801 | WEBSITE

LongHorn Steakhouse is a welcoming family spot that’s perfect for a casual dinner out in Somerville. You’ll always find a friendly crowd in the dining room that’s kept clean and comfortable with a straightforward, kid-friendly setup. The food is better than what you’ll find at most chain steakhouses, and the menu is accessible enough that pretty much anyone can find something they like.
Start with the steaks that are generally good and reasonably priced, then, go for whatever sides sound good to you. Service can be a bit slow when it’s busy, but the attentive staff and managers who check on tables help keep things pleasant.
Jimmy’s Steer House
$$ | (781) 646-4450 | WEBSITE

If you’re in the Somerville area, this is already your favorite local steakhouse. The restaurant is in a lovely, family dinner-ready space that’s been a favorite since the 90s, and the American steakhouse food is consistently delicious.
There’s also an excellent and reasonably priced cocktail list, so load up on some cookies and cream martinis along with the lobster pie, the petit filet special with rice pilaf (which is technically a special, but feels like a staple), and some prime rib with shrimp.
Oliveira’s Steak House
$$ | (617) 764-0455 | WEBSITE

At this lively Somerville steakhouse, they serve meats by weight every day. You choose between beef, pork, and chicken hearts, and add sides from the salad bar like tomatoes with mozzarella and grilled asparagus. The menu is a hit with kids, as is the easy parking for larger groups—but the atmosphere and excellent desserts aren’t too family-friendly for strictly adult dinners.
We don’t know how long it’ll be before other steakhouses lose their reputation for high prices, but Oliveira’s could easily adopt it (as long as you’re willing to overlook their lack of chaotic weekend seating).
Boston Chops South End
$$$$ | (617) 227-5011 | WEBSITE

Say you’re meeting up with a friend in Somerville, and you’re looking for a cozy, upscale place where you can eat a steak and make some light conversation. Go to Boston Chops South End. They cook all their steaks—like the ribeye and steak frites—to perfection, and you can get any of them gluten-free. There’s also a bar where you can put your head down and spend some quality time with a cocktail, if that’s the sort of dinner you need.
Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse
$$$ | (617) 738-4810 | WEBSITE

We’ve never seen waitstaff as effusive about their homemade Italian dishes as the people at Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse in Somerville. They could just be good at their jobs, but the table next to you will also chime in to confirm that yes, the spaghetti and meatballs is to die for. So get the spaghetti and meatballs—or the deconstructed lasagna, really—and a steak per person to share.
This place has high-ceiling charm, and the staff are warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in to your enthusiastic exit interview at the end.
Mooo….Beacon Hill
$$$$ | (617) 670-2515 | WEBSITE
![]()
This Beacon Hill steakhouse does a $45 Sunday Supper special, which includes unlimited Parker House buns, prime sirloin carpaccio, and truffle fries alongside perfectly grilled steaks. Unless you’re a full-time Boston resident, getting to this elegant, inviting restaurant will be a journey, but we can’t really think of a better way to spend a Sunday evening.
But you could come here with a group any night of the week for American Wagyu filet mignon, a few glasses of reasonably priced wine, and a couple of exceptional lobster dinners—we like the bone-in ribeye, with roasted bone marrow and Bananas Foster.
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse
$$$$ | (617) 259-1568 | WEBSITE

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse is a premier Somerville destination that specializes in upscale steakhouse dining. Come here when you want refined comfort food that you can enjoy in your sharpest attire while still getting an elegant escape from the everyday. The dining room is sophisticated and built around the open kitchen where the chef personally inspects every steak before it leaves.
Start with the seafood tower featuring crab legs, then get the can’t-miss bone-in filet with garlic butter. If you’re celebrating something special, order a bottle of their Napa Red wine. It’s robust, well-balanced, and very drinkable in all the right ways.
Mooo…. Seaport
$$$$ | (617) 556-8000 | WEBSITE

Mooo…. Seaport in the Boston Seaport area works well for many special-occasion situations: a celebratory dinner, a business meal, a romantic evening, or even a solo indulgence. And the food—tuna tartare, steak tartare, octopus, sirloin carpaccio, and the beef Wellington with foie gras and Kobe cap—is all exceptional. The two essential dishes here are the beef Wellington, which you should get with the foie gras, and the New York sirloin.
(You’ll want to savor every bite, so just order both from the start.) There’s always an elegant atmosphere, but you can usually get a reservation without too much advance notice, and be sure to bring your appetite because the portions are generous.
The Stockyard Restaurant
$$$ | (617) 782-4700 | WEBSITE

The Stockyard Restaurant is a steakhouse in Somerville, owned by the same team behind several local favorites. Inside, there’s a fireplace that glows on crisp fall nights, decorated with rustic farm tools and cozy lighting, wooden tables that feel solid and welcoming, and generous portions of food that keep guests coming back for more. The Stockyard isn’t open too late, but it’s a great casual option for dinner, or a celebration meal that turns into a feast of T-bone steak.
There’s a charming atmosphere throughout that’s perfect for a lively evening out.
