When done right, Thai cuisine in Barrie is a revelation. Its popularity has surged, with nearly every neighborhood offering its own take. (We’d be remiss not to mention our own cravings for that perfect pad thai.) Fortunately, Barrie serves up a vibrant array of authentic and modern Thai flavors. Here are the standout spots you should visit now.
B’Spoke Kitchen + Market
$$ | (705) 252-6653 | WEBSITE

The calamari isn’t the first thing most people gravitate toward when eating at B’Spoke Kitchen + Market, known best for their fabulous decor, great drink specials, and upscale takes on gourmet hot dogs and amazing bowls. But their simple calamari is underrated. The calamari is hot and fried to a crispy golden brown, before being served with a zesty dipping sauce. If it was just a little cheaper, we would turn this into a weekly calamari-Friday staple.
AMAYA real indian food

Specializing in authentic Indian cuisine, Amaya Real Indian Food has become one of the most satisfying names in the Barrie dining scene. (Is that a thing? Let’s make it a thing).
And rightfully so—all of the food here, whether takeout or dine-in, comes perfectly prepared and served in generous portions that range from “just right” to “huge.” They keep it welcoming here—a bit of warm ambiance, polite and efficient staff, and some helpful servers like Karam rest on top of a dining experience that manages to stay as delicious and enjoyable as any that we’ve had.
Green Mango Tree

There aren’t a lot of spots serving authentic Thai food in Barrie these days, so when the craving for coconut rice and ginger beef strikes, we head to Green Mango Tree. The pineapple chicken here is a classic done right, pairing tender chicken with a sweet and tangy sauce that has just the right amount of heat. Grab an order of their banana rolls to go with it, then settle in at one of the cozy wooden tables and get comfortable.
It’s not difficult to do here—the welcoming staff makes you feel right at home, and the prices are excellent for the quality. Just skip the tom yum soup if you’re looking for something traditional, as it tends to miss the mark with its unusual spice blend.
Basil House
$ | (705) 719-6879 | WEBSITE

Basil House is a cozy spot known for its flavorful Vietnamese and Thai dishes. Their must-try menu item is the spicy basil chicken. It’s a generous portion of tender chicken—though almost juicy enough to be confused for duck—tossed in a fragrant basil sauce with just the right kick of heat, all served over a bed of steaming jasmine rice. The balance of flavors is reason enough to make Basil House your go-to for Southeast Asian cuisine in Barrie (which, fortunately, you’ll never regret).
Thai Bamboo Restaurant
$$ | (705) 739-6777 | WEBSITE

Thai Bamboo Restaurant is a highly-recommended eatery, known for its delicious food and excellent service in a clean and friendly atmosphere. Their crispy spring rolls are exceptional. They come with vegetarian options and are perfectly fried to a golden crisp, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce that adds just the right tang. For extra flavor and texture, there’s a fresh herb garnish and a side of crunchy vegetables.
The dishes here offer excellent flavors with family-style portions ideal for sharing, and the take-home containers are a thoughtful touch. The Chicken Coconut soup is a particular favorite—creamy and aromatic with tender chicken pieces. Customers can request their meals to be spicier if desired, and the chef’s spice profile is amazing, especially on the gluten-free Pad Thai which is absolutely delicious.
With large portions and reasonable prices (most entrees around $15–$20), it’s good value for quality and quantity. The in-house rice is a standout—fluffy and fragrant—and the calamari appetizer is another hit, lightly fried and served with a zesty sauce. It’s no wonder customers return for more, thanks to the outstanding service and overall enjoyable dining experience.
Chaopaya Thai Restaurant
$$ | (705) 733-9918 | WEBSITE

We’ve been pretty vocal about our love for the Shrimp Pad Thai at Chaopaya Thai, so it shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise that they also make a killer green curry. The curry gets simmered with authentic Thai herbs before being topped with a refreshing coconut milk that adds just as much richness as it does flavor (you can get an additional side of it, too). It’s a dish that will leave your palate a little satisfied, giving you a lingering reminder of the excellence you just took in.
Rim Thanon Thai Kitchen
$$ | (249) 733-1264 | WEBSITE

You can get the Khao Soi with its rich coconut curry broth and tender noodles, or with a small side of crunchy chicken—we like the latter—and both versions showcase Thai cuisine at its finest. The curry is spicy, the vegetables are fresh, and a small bowl of green curry adds some necessary heat. The fried shrimp spring rolls are crispy, the calamari is tender, and the ginger beef brings a perfect balance of sweet and savory.
The service is super friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the presentation makes every dish look as good as it tastes. For vegetarians, they can make dishes without fish oil, and the vegetable green curry is absolutely delicious. With quick service and well-priced food, it’s the best Thai experience in the area.
Qing’s Cuisine
$ | (705) 503-6610 | WEBSITE

We especially like the Thai Chicken Fried Rice at Qing’s Cuisine, which is a generously portioned dish packed with fresh vegetables, tender chicken, and authentic Thai spices. If you’re craving something with a bit more tang, you can try the lemon chicken—a perfectly balanced sweet-and-sour creation that’s both crispy and satisfying. It comes with a side of steamed rice—a classic pairing for Chinese-Thai fusion, and one that we’re fully on board with.
There are multiple must-try dishes in Barrie, including the fried fun noodle with beef, sweet and sour pork, and of course, their signature fried rice.
